My Piper had a bad reaction to her shots also. Along with the hives, she was so lethargic she couldn't walk and she had a very high fever. I sat with her for two days straight giving her water from a bottle so she wouldn't dehydrate. I was sick with worry. I'm glad to say she is as energetic and wonderful as ever and I'm glad to see Caney will be too!!

I agree that titers should be run. They are more expensive than the vaccines themselves but they are well worth it. There is no need to vaccinate if your pup is already protected from the disease.

I am glad she is doing better. I would be VERY careful about future vaccinations. I would do titer checks to see if she ever actually needs another one. And then I would only give Parvo or Distemper and no more combined. The titers may show she does will not need any future vaccinations.QUOTE]

I specifically agree with the no more combined. The vaccines can be given seperately and you may not have the same results. I asked the vet to give Max's vaccines this way because my other dog has allergic reactions (must keep giving benadryl and steroids until it subsides) to his vaccines. Max got his seperately and we never had problems with him. Try that- or do the titers. But I would say if you are a regular fan of dog parks make sure your dog is VERY WELL protected before you venture out of the house with your baby!

our Zuki is allergic to the lepto portion of the combined vaccine. she almost died when receiving her 2nd set of shots as a puppy.
we premedicate with benedryl before any vaccines now. and DO NOT vaccinate for lepto.
actually, our vet doesn't vaccinate any boxers for lepto because he has seen so many allergic reactions.
hugs to your baby
