Puppy ate Vaseline!

Hi. This is Christine. My puppy, Rocky is about 7 mos. old now and he just ate about a third of a jar of vaeline. the jar was a 7.5 oz. jar. Can this harm him or should I not worry about it? He hasn't eaten things before other than his food, so I don't know what to do! Thank you.

I don't think vaseline will harm him. Cotton wool smeared with vaseline is one of the things recommended if your dog has swallowed something sharp like a pin (pin should stick to the vaseline covered cotton and be passed safely) - so even though that's a fairly extreme situation, I doubt if that would be a recommended course of action if vaseline itself were a big problem.

Thank you very much... I just wasn't sure. I heard about how the vet tells you to give them vaseline to get other things out, but didn't know if too much would hurt him. He seems ok, but just wanted to ask.

My mom's schnauzer ate some vaseline and he was fine. He did have a couple nasty (runny)bowel movements though:(

Yes, Rocky had a few loose bowl movements, but he is still as rotton as ever. He sure does keep me on my toes!! It just surprised me because he has never eaten anything before, I guess I will have to keep a very close eye on things now. He is a joy to have around though. There is never a dull moment here. He always makes us all laugh. It's nice to have him around. Thank you all for your responses!!
