Puppy and motion sickness

Every time I take my 5 month old Unda with me in my car, he's bound to go sick and puke in the car...

It's not a major issue, since I have a special car-rug for the backseats, but it's not entirely nice either..

I try to drive as smooth and careful as possible, but after a few bumps and a few curves, it's mayhem..


The only time it doesn't happen, is when he's really tired when we go back and falls asleep..

Is this something that he'll grow out of ?, and are there any preventions ?


I already tried not feeding him or even feeding him before going out, but to no avail, he'll just throw up..
I also tried restraining him in the car with his leash so he can't move around in the back seat and get sick because of that, but that didn't help either..


Any tips ?

Jasmine used to get sick on car rides until she was about 10 months old. She has not gotten sick since then. I think she just grew out of it. I know that if she had fresh air she was less likely to get sick. Hopefully it is somthing your will just grow out of too.

I had a Lab that used to get car sick as a pup, The day we went to get her, she was riding on my lap, and threw up cheap stinky dog food all over me, and we still had a 45 minute drive left! She grew out of it around 5-6 months.

Yes, they do eventually grow out of it. When my boxer was a pup, she would get sick all the time. How often do you take your boxer for a ride in the car? I was told that take them for small rides around the neighborhood, little by little, they will get used to it. Good luck.

My Rockwell got car sick until about 10-11 months as well. Sometimes we would get all the way home and have just parked when blahhhhhh. He grew out of it and wouldn't pass on a car ride for anything. Even if you were cleaning the car, he would get in just in case you might go somewhere. I'm sure your baby will grow out of this too.

We use ginger snap cookies for when we take a road trip.

Tobee may have grown out of it, but I don't risk it. He only throws up if he is in the car for over a half hour though, so I don't have to worry about trips to the vet a such.

If we know we are taking a long trip, I don't feed him for about hours before hand. Then I give him a few ginger snaps in the morning and few threw out the trip (he loves them, plus he is hungry). This seems to work.

When he was only 3 months old, we took him on a trip with us for my birthday. It was his first long car ride and he puked all over me. I guess he really wanted to give me a nice birthday present.

I take him on a trip once a week or so, really depends..

And he really doesn't like the car anymore because of it, I have to carry him in, he won't get in by himself..


Though I bet that as soon as I do a few trips to the woods with him that'll pass by :D
