It would help to know how many he had. But I would call the vet to be safe.

FYI, most chocolate (hershey's kisses included) have very little of the actual ingredient that is toxic to dogs. Before I knew better, my 7 lb peke mix ate M&M's all the time and she lived to be 15. Not a lot of them, but a few everytime I bought some til someone told me they were a no-no. I've also known a Aus Sheperd that ate about a 1/2 pound of fudge that was left on the counter. The vet advised to just watch her for signs of lethargy and/or vomiting. Nothing happened, except I had to make a new batch of fudge for the office.

Do a search here on "chocolate" and I am sure you will find more.

My boy harley ate an entire 2.5 pound box of assorted chocolates. I took him to the vet and they gave him a tablet in his eye which made him vomit up the entire box. The vet said if it was a small amount then I would have had nothing to worry about. She said that when a dog eats chocolate they will become very hyper and anxious. Chocolate affects their hearts and makes them beat extremely fast, this is what can become dangerous in dogs. I don't think I would worry too much about a few m&m's but then again you can never be too safe so I would just give your vet a call to be sure.

thanks everyone for the advice. my son only had three but he likes to share with the puppies. I have told him not to but of course being 2 he never listens. I guess i will have to lock up the chocolate from now on. I called the vet and she said that since it was a small amount she might just throw it up. Again thanks everyone for the advice.:)

My 4 mo old boxer ate 1 kiss, plus the foil wrapper....then went ahead and threw it up a few minutes later. Guess it didn't agree w/ him too much at all....

After our 70 lb boxer ate 2 pounds of chocolate he acted completely normal until about 11pm that night when he vomited the entire mess all over my shoes in the closet. Guess he thought I needed some new shoes or that I should have kept the closet door closed.
