Puppies 6 days old! Please help!!!

My girl gave birth to (((12))) healthy bundles of joy on November 29. I have had many dogs with puppies before, but never boxers. Is there any special care? What can I do for them if I want them to be strong and healty?

*sigh* what would have been best for the puppies would have been to wait til the mother was 2yrs old and properly cleared of genetic diseases. (your bitch is 1yr6mos.. refering to your old posts) Proper health testing, NOT just a vet check, can only be done after age 2.. same for the males.

Since what has been done is done already... i would get yourself a local mentor, someone who has many years of experience w/in the boxer breed (showing/whelping, etc..) With 12 puppies you need to make sure that each puppy is receiving enough milk, so you should be handfeeding half and rotating..

i hope others w/ more whelping experience can add more.. best of luck to the pups and their very young mom.

I agree. Sadly the breeding culture in Mexico is far, far behind and these tests are normally NEVER performed. I did not inted to breed her so young, although she has all the papers that allow me to and the male does to. I was away for about 2 months in the US and my boyfriend (with whow I used to live) thought it was a good idea because he got a very good deal on the male. Of course I was not happy about it, but as you say, what´s done, is done, so no use crying over spilled milk.

I come here for help since there are no experts in Mexico that I can go to. I have only had scotties and she only had 4 - 6 pups. I didn´t have to worry so much. Now with Toshka, she had (((12))) and I have my hads full. I have tails and ears to worry about, should I get them cropped or not. How often and what should I hand feed them, how do I help Toshka to stay healty and strong, etc, etc??? I rotate the puppies on her, but I never thought about hand-feeding them. How do I do this? I want all of them to be in top shape. Recomendations? Comments? Good luck maybe???

I have no advise to offer you either other what has already been said...talk to your vet!
I do send you and Toshka best wishes and hope that she stays healthy as well as the pups! Good luck! :)

I don't have any advice to offer since I am not a professional experienced breeder, but at least you are asking for help in the right place. I do not want to assume anything, so please understand that the only info i have is from what you have posted. I am sure that this is overwhelming, but think how the mother must feel. Again...wow.

You know the first thing I want to say is Congrats on the fact that he is a "boyfriend you USED to live with" because he sounds like a real loser. To put a young dog like that in jeopardy of losing her life from pregnancy and birth without even talking to you first. Good Luck on those babies, 12 will be a really big responsibility. I think that the tails definately need to be cropped, but make sure the vet does use something to numb the pain as someone else already stated. Dew claw removal is very important also because boxers box and these can be easily ripped off. My baby still has hers and I worry everyday that she is going to rip them off, if she ever needs to be put under for anything (didn't know how important it was for them to be removed when I had her spayed because I didn't know about this fine place BW) I plan to have them removed then, just don't want to risk putting her under for just dewclaw removal. As far as the ears, that would be the responsibility of the owners that purchase the pups as that needs to be done a little later, I think around 8 weeks, someone else will need to tell you the real age as my baby still has her natural ears and my vet never even mentioned cropping as I am sure they don't do it anymore. Anyways good luck and hope you can get some help...
