Pup Poops A LOT

Hello,

We are currently feeding our 6 month old boxer, Norah, Eagle Pak Puppy food. We will be switching over in about a week to the Hollistic Lamb and Rice formula.

To this date, Norah has pooped A LOT! She usually goes 3-4 times in the morning, once in the afternoon with the dog walker and she usually leaves us a present in her cage for us by the time we get home from work. Then in the evening she might go another 3 times. Just an fyi, she has always had healthy looking solid stools.

This seems like an unusual amount of pooping for a dog. Could this be because of the puppy food we are currently feeding? And if so, should we see a difference when we switch over to the adult formula?

Food Amount

I follow the instructions on the bag and feed her about a cup and a half once in the morning and a cup and a half in the evening.

She doesn't always eat everything in the bowl. If she doesn't eat everything she comes pretty close, however.

I would start to wean her off the puppy formula asap and then see how things go on the adult. If she's still pooping that much after being on the adult formula maybe something in the ingredients just aren’t for her and you might have to try a different brand. Sometimes it takes a lot of tries before you find that one that agrees with her. Just make sure you are not soaking this kibble in water as it uses citric acid to preserve the fat – one of the precautions you can take again bloat.

I Have a 6 month old that I switched food from purina to Canidae and I thought that he pooped a lot about 6 to 8 x a day but as he gets older and his system is adjusting to the food he is getting to be more regular about 4 x a day. I guess the older they get the more regular they become puppies poop alot just like skin babies.

Update

Well, hopefully it is not to early to give this update.

However, we switched Norah's food to Eagle Pack Hollistic Lamb and Rice from the EP puppy food. We started mixing them together last wednesday and gradually have given more every other day. Anyways, ever since we started mixing she has pooped significantly less than before. We haven't had an accident after coming home from work (and she even doesn't poop for the dog walker sometimes). She might go three times in the morning but it is usually just 2 times now.

Plus, she seems to really like the new food a lot, it doesn't take her long to eat!

Knock on wood, hopefully this has done the trick!
