I can't get canned pumpkin here in the uk so I got seeds instead, only I don't quite know what to do with them. Do I have to grind them?

Some people have said that canned pumpkin will help stop diarrhea. I tried it on Jack once and all it did was turn his loose stools orange. Pumpkin seeds... I am not sure...

You have to be careful that it's pure pumpkin and not the kind that goes in pumpkin pie! :) It also can have the exact opposite effect if fed too much, so it's a guessing game to find the correct amount! :)

It's for relieving diarrhoea? If so, toss the pumpkin seeds out for the birds and get some actual pumpkin ;) There is no need for it to come in a can - fresh pureed pumpkin will have exactly the same effect. Just buy a pumpkin or squash at the supermarket, take it home and put the flesh into a blender. Then you have pureed pumpkin, identical to that which comes in a can.

Pumpkin is one of those handy vegetables that can be used for both firming or loosening stools - it all depends on doesage as to which effect you get (note: this doesn't apply to diarrhoea caused by protozoa or other bugs, just to general upset tummy/digestive system). 1 tablespoon daily will firm up stools, 2+ will loosen them (handy to know should you ever have a dog with constipation).
