Boxer Pal
A week ago, my 1 1/2 year, 65 pound, firm, fawn boxer, Bailey, was playing with a dog, running through the woods and playing...The next day she was limping, it slowly got better...But I took her to the vet and she said the pain is in her knee...Bailey doesn't cry if you touch it or complain...However she is on an antibiotic called Dermattrax...The Vet said no playing, running, walks, jumping, etc. for two weeks, then slowly start her exercises again...But if it doesn't improve, they may have to tranquiller, see where the problem in the knee is and possibly have surgery.

Has anyone experience this or have any info on this??

Thanks!!
Marilyn

I think you probably mean Deramaxx - the new darling of the vets for pain, it's not an antibiotic.
When they tell you to keep your dog quiet......they mean REALLY quiet as in crated or confined to an expen or small room so that no running, jumping, spinning, leaping (no fun) happens during this period.
If they tranquilize her for an examination, they are probably looking for "the drawer sign" which shows if there is slippage in the cruciate ligament which proves a rupture or tear.
There is a very good Yahoo messageboard just for orthopedic injuries and surgeries - it's a great place to learn what to look for, what the vets are telling you, how to keep a dog quiet and what the different surgeries entail.

Good luck, I sincerely hope you won't have to go through this surgery - our male Mack has had two of them. Let us know what happens.
