Pudding Poo

My 2 year old brindle boy has had diarrhea since we got him at 10 weeks. Originally it was thought to be a reaction to a sulfa medication given to him for a upper respiratory infection when he was 8 weeks old. Then we were told his immune system was suppressed and he would out grow it hopefully by the time he turns 1. So, here we are 2 years old and have the same issue. We have tried every medication, food, prescription food, test, pumpkin, yogart, switched vets for second opinion and spent a small fortune with no relief.

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what next. He is a very high energy guy (like most boxers) and it gets worse when he stressed. Irritable bowel syndorme - I suspect. He maintains a healthy weight and looks great. Just feel bad that he always has pudding poo.

Any suggestions???

Thanks

Seems like you've tried many things but at this point you may want to think about a natural raw diet. Some dogs just don't do well on kibble and have trouble processing any kind of grain. If you check out the BARF forum here on BW you will find similar stories with good outcomes after switching to raw. Just a thought ;)

what kind of kibble are you feeding?
my gracie had soft bloody stools her whole life. when I did research here at bw I found out that a natural raw diet might work. so we had nothing to lose. I started to feed her raw thinking that it would not work since nothing ever did and lo and behold it worked. she finally had a normal poop. appicon
you might want to do a search on barf (bones and raw food) it's good reading and you never know. and if you don't want to feed raw you might want to try home cooking. one of the problems with kibble is the grain dogs have a hard time digesting grain. good luck and keep us posted.:)

Barf

I had done some research on raw and kinda was scared off by the thought of it. I discussed with Vet and she really was reluctant for us to try it. But all of the $$$$ of tests done on him are normal!! She didn't really give me a reason why not to try raw. She prescribed Science Diet Z/D at that time and it has done nothing after over 3 months of feeding it to him.

I will do some more research on raw. Might be the last resort.

Thanks for the info,

Good luck with your research! Check the BARF forum and read some of the links there. Keep in mind that a raw diet is what dogs used to eat. Kibble has only been existence for the last 80 years or so.

Thankfully our boxer hasn't had too many problems with diarrhea but I've seen it dozens of times in our greyhounds... raw diet usually works and we've also used acidophilus with success.

Good luck!

I have to agree with the previous posts - a raw diet is the way to go. If you check out the barf forum, you will see that your furbaby's problem is not unique - it is the main reason I made the switch and have never looked back. BTW, most vets are opposed to the diet, but I was fortunate to have found a group that appreciates the benefits of raw - they even sell premade frozen patties. Good luck ~ Cathy
