Boxer Pal
Hi my name is Isabelle and my boxer's name is Jasmine. She was born in January 2000. She turned 1 recently, but in December we found out that she had a terminal kidney disorder. She was a very happy dog until recently and it hurts to see her so down. I changed vets twice because neither of the first two would give me an answer to what was wrong with her. I really like the vet I have now. He really cares for her. I was wondering if anyone knew about this illness and I also wanted to share some of the symptoms that she has experienced. Let me start by saying that I bought her from a reputable dealer. Her grandparents on the father's side are both champions and so is the father. However, the father carries the gene for prolystic kidney failure. He does not have any kidney problems, but as I found out all that it takes is for him to carry the gene. When she was 6 months old she fainted, but by then it was too late. I was not going to return her. She was mine and I would stick by her. The vet told me to wait until she was 1. So I waited a couple of months and took her back when she fainted again. He told me to wait again. After this second incident her stool became very liquid, almost watery and she could not hold herself. She later began having blood in her stool. We took her to the vet and the fecal exam came out negative. In December I changed vets and we ran all sorts of tests on her and found that she had a genetic problem. I called the breeder and he tested his dogs. He found the male was the carrier and neutered him. Two of the females that he kept died. Now Jasmine is heading down that road and it is so hard to let go. She is so young and to see her now compared to how she used to be just breaks my heart. I know it is ultimately my decision, but the vet has asked me to consider putting her out of her misery. She barely plays any more. I just basically want advise and if anyone out there breeds, I would like to know how I could ensure that the next time that I buy a boxer I know that the puppy is not sick in any way.

Thank you for your help...

Isa
