Hi Folks,

Shaddow in the past few days has gone off his kibble. He was eating one brand no problems at all last week, but this week he doesnt want to know. I have tried him on some tinned meat mixed with the kibble, but he only seems to want the meat.

I do not want to put him on tins and want a kibble only diet. Any suggestions ? i dont want to go out and buy every brand of kibble as like i said, he was fine on the 1 brand last week.

Thanks

OK, in that case I really wouldn't worry at all. And if you don't want to be giving him canned food, then don't try to tempt him with it.

Young puppies can be notorious for being picky eaters. In reality, they're not really being picky at all, but are just following their body's needs. They go through some pretty big growth spurts when they're little, and during a spurt, their little bodies need all the energy they can get. So the pup eats well. But during the periods between spurts, they simply don't need that much energy, so they don't eat a lot. It's perfectly normal, and there's no need to try to force them to eat (in fact, it's better not to).

I'd just keep offering him his food at regular meal times (at least three meals a day for a baby pup, preferably four) and pick it back up again if he isn't hungry. In a week or so, another growth spurt will start, and he'll be hungry enough then ;) As long as you're feeding a premium food to your pup, there really is no need to worry about his picky periods ;)

That's just what i wanted to hear thanks. He's currently on Pedigree Puppy Complete for the record.

Mmmm. Without wishing to sound too critical, Pedigree is actually a very low quality dog food. You might like to think about something a bit better for your pup - that doesn't contain low quality ingredients like meat by-products, corn and wheat.

There's some very good information about how to choose a good quality dry dog food at www.boxerworld.com/feeding A food can only ever be as good as the ingredients that go into it - and that page tells you what to look for, what to avoid, and why.

As a couple of suggestions, you might like to try something something like James Wellbeloved or Burns. Those are reasonable foods, and both easy to find in the UK.

i buy james wellbeloved from the pet shop (supermarkets don't sell it).

i have to phone up to order the nature diet.

nature diet is meat incase you didn't know. :)

Well tried the yoghurt trick tonight and that worked a treat :D

I am very suprised about what you say about Pedigree foods, as you know Pedigree in the UK is bigged up on TV as being the best in the retail market, what you have told me has shocked me tbh...
