Problem in Florida

I have a BIG problem. I just found out that I actually got my dream job in Key Largo, Florida. (Not the Problem.) The problem is that I just found out that in Dade County Florida, where I will be living, it is illegal to own boxers! They are considered dangerous animals and you aren't able to get house insurance if you own one! Does anyone live in Dade County or have any information on this issue? I have a three year old male, neutered, boxer. I can't think of life without him. This job is something that I can't pass up; I have to take it. He is an rescued, ex-show dog, so it is very noticeable that he is indeed a boxer. I have to figure out what to do by Thanksgiving when I am moving. Any ideas?

Congrats on the dream job but I would never move to a place that bans boxers. Not only would I not be able to leave my babies behind but what is wrong with all the other people who live there?

Is there a nearby community you could live in and make the commute?

Oh my gosh. Congrats on the new job, but what a bad dilemma. Is is possible to commute to work from a more dog-friendly county? ...I wonder how that law was passed.

From what I found so far it doesnt appear there law includes boxers... hugs I read them briefly so please double check.. hope that helps..

Move a county over and commute. I live in NC too! But I live in Randolph county and commute to Guilford. It's about a 35 min. drive every morning! You get used to it. We did it for the cheaper taxes and got a lot more land for our buck for our babies to roam! Our home owners ins. policy will not cover pit bulls, chows, rotties, and at the time I had a weenie dog, they told me statistically he would be more apt to bite than my boxers. Boy was that the truth! He was a firecracker. But anyway, back to the subject, I would look on a map where the actual job is located and check out the nearest county and what their regulations are. Surely there are not other counties down there with the same kind of idiot law makers.

Yeah, pit-bulls are banned, which I dont agree with either, but doesnt say anything about boxers. "Pit-bull type dogs" only. Which technically, a pit-bull is a terrier. Not even in the same class as a boxer. Does not look as if you have any worries. Might want to check you source out.

Who told you/ where did you get the info that they were illegal there?Perhaps it is misiformed rumour/urban legend? Have you checked your Insurance provider and/or got a quote?

That is a good idea, especially with all of the hurricanes we have had lately.

If your current company doesn't write in Florida, it's probably a good idea to check before you move. It may not be a matter of the county, but the insurer.
