Pressed/compressed rawhide?

Try stuffing your sterilized bones with your dogs favorite treats, carrots, cheese, peanut butter... Banner just loves that. He is a strong chewer who can devour black kongs, nylabones, and rawhides in minutes but he loves to chew on his sterilized bones with treats inside for hours. Keeps him busy and out of trouble and as far as I know no real choking hazard.

Just be careful, banner figured out that by tossing his bone around he can sometimes knock the treats loose. He especially loves to drop it down the stairs, which can do a number on wall at the bottom. Other than that it's great!

I do occasionally put some PB or a liver treat in the sterilized bone. I have also seen stuffed sterilized bones at Petsmart. I bet it would take Tae a while to clean out one of those. Hmmmm...

I might also look into ordering some of those bones from Drs. Foster & Smith.

never had a problem with rawhides with the 5 dogs ive owned... only problem is my old Shepherd Sheba decided she wanted to hide it and buried it in a waterbed....needless to say the outcome wasnt too good.

Thanks for the info! I'm afraid that I have some upset pups on my hands but it is all for the greater good I guess! I would hate for something preventible and bad to happen!

pig ears

Good ole charlie is a pig ear freak, the only thing i have to watch is that he doesn't slobber them. If he chews them apart they are great but if he gums one silly it gets to wear its a size he wants to swallow whole, which I dunno about everyone elses doggy but charlies got a massively wide jaw structure inside so somethings i'd give a lil dog i so wouldnt give this boy.

I was at a pet store one night and they had ostrich bones, charlies now had this bone for about four months, it's a bit messy but not in a wet sticky way just he chews and chews and leaves lil chips of it all over. It's almost like it's a bone he wouldnt want to swallow but loves gnawing on.

And those bones that come in the lil bone shaped tuperware container are great.........cept they seem to be almost like flour dough so.....oh my gawd the things it does to carpet. It's like glue waiting to be broke back down. So, we gave up on those after the first two.

Pigs ears are just as bad as rawhide. Both are *very* common choking hazards, and both are bacteria traps that have the potential to make your dog sick if ingested (they are very difficult to digest, being essentially leather, so the bacteria sits around in your dog's stomach for days or even weeks). The compressed stuff is no better. If you do a search here on 'raw hide', you will find that this is an extremely common topic - so there is a wealth of information (not to mention stories of dogs choking) to be found.

My dogs get thoese big kunkcle bones and bullies, no other chews of any kind. Just not worth the risk for me.

where can you get these Steralized shin bones? I have looked at Petco and they don't seem to have them. This is what our breeder recommended. Also.. what is a bully?

You can find sterilized shin bones at Petsmart. They are not too expensive and last a long time, provided you don't drop it on a hard floor!

A bully stick. Hmmmmm, the one I bought for Tae last week came in a wrapper labeled bull tendon. It's actually a certain part of the bull anatomy. LOL. Use your imagination! Dogs love them....
