another story of a shelter pitbull

On one of my regular visits to our local animal shelter, there were six dogs, all brought in together, that had been used for bait. They were all on a "legal hold" hopefully to get the guys who were fighting dogs. A couple of them were pit bulls (but not all of them). One of the pit bulls was about the meanest looking, stocky, stern faced thing you have ever seen. But . . . if you looked a little closer . . . you could see his tail wagging. I walked over to his cage and he just whined for me to love on him. I talked to the member of the staff standing in that area (probably a vet student) and he said that he was the most gentle and loving dog he had ever seen in there, in spite of the cuts and scratches all over his body.

So it would seem, that even in the worse situations, sometimes you can't break the spirit of a warm hearted animal.

A short Rotti story ~~~~

In my neighborhood, a woman walks a really stocky, mean looking rottweiler. One morning, on the way to take the trash out, he was off leash and the owner was nowhere in sight. The rotti, upon hearing me open the door came running toward me and of course I squatted down. He didn't stop until he got right to me, he licked my face and went on down the road!

Any fear I ever had of rotties is gone!

A guess the old antic "you can't judge a book by its cover" is still good.

Our babies have the same name! My Ozzy is almost 10 weeks old. How did you come up with the name? Our Ozzy came from Kansas so thats where Ozzy originated from... for us anyways

All of our dogs and cats have names that reference real or fictional characters in books, movies or music.
Ozzy is named after Ozzy Osbourne, because our Ozzy is a survivor just like the human Ozzy.
Our little guy had a very rough start in life, he didn't have the best conditions to live in but he's beautiful and healthy despite it all!:D

I just have to tell you this little story....we had a family pit bull, Ninja, when I was about 11 years old (a few years back cough cough) anyhow....this is kind of funny.....

I had a black PBT puppy and had worked all summer to teach him to lead and sit on command. He was great, atleast I thought he was. So I entered him in our very small town (population 400) fall festival's dog show. OH MAN.......a bunch of people threw a fit because I brought a PBT. I really couldn't understand. There was even ppl trying to get me "disqualified"!!! I ended up being able to take my puppy up on stage and show off all our work of the summer. Guess what trophy he won.........The Friendliest Dog!!! I think maybe the judges were trying to prove something, I don't know, I was a kid, I was just excited we got a trophy!!!

That puppy disappeared before he was much older....broke my heart, but that memory will always be a treasured one!!!

People's Prejudice

It is unfortunate that people have such narrow views of dogs, but I must admit I was one of those people at one time. I grew up with cats. When my boyfriend and I got together, he lived with a male and female pitbull, and was raising puppies. Needless to say I was a little intimidated at first. The breed unfortunately has a bad rap. But let me tell you those dogs were wonderful. I have such fond memories of every one of those dogs, and was able to watch most of them grow up. After moving out, Crash and Samson came with him, and we raised the two. Samson ended up being a little too much to handle, but Crash stayed with us. I have never met a more loyal and protective, lovable and loving dog. Crash had never met my dad before, and when he pulled up, Crash ran across the street and jumped into the driver side window, onto his lap-he knew who he was. Trust me Crash had his quirks, but he was not a nasty dog. It all comes down to how they were raised. Any dog can be nasty, and any dog can be an angel angelicon. I miss Crash so much sometimes it hurts, but I know he's in a wonderful place, and he is with us in spirit.

Completely Boxer Crazy
For a number of years now, Pit Bull Terriers, have had certain restrictions enforced here in the UK. No longer can they be bred, in fact any one owning one must have it registered and neutered. The dog must be muzzled in public at all times. Sad I know, but due to lots of bad press and attacks on chilldren the law has enforced this.
Unfortunately, lot of dogs are cross breeds and look very much like pit bulls and there have been lots of cases where police have taken the dogs away and left it it vets to determine whether they are pit bulls or not. Also I know of a case where an actual pit bull had its muzzle removed as it was being sick in public, only to be taken away for its fate to be decided.
I actually wonder how different the Boxers jaw is to the Pit Bull?
I was always told, that the boxer could lock its jaw when fighting. My mother witnessed this when one of our females attacked a neighbours dog who tried to eat her food. My mum tried to prize her jaws open to no avail and it was only when she turned on the hose pipe our boxer finally let go. I must say up to that time she was a wonderfully sweet girl and for ever more afterwards, except to that neighbours dog.
