My Boxer Layla

Hello everyone I am new here and have a few questions. I adopted a boxer from a friend of mine who had 2 Boxers and couldn't care for them anymore. I got her 2 months ago and guess what she is pregnant! I couldn't be more excited but I am also concerned I am in no way a breeder and I am having her fixed as soon as possible. I just have a few concerns. I have taken her to the vet and done everything to research her pregnancy and birth but I guess nothing compares to the real thing. She is now 65 days pregnant I have taken her temp. everyday for a week and it dropped 3 days ago she has stopped eating and is showing all the signs of labor even a few contractions but just no puppies or pushing. I called the vet and they said if no babys by friday then bring her in. I would like to let things happen naturally. Is there anything I can do to help her out?

Also Lalya was beaten by the guys wife when she was younger (they are now divorced) but she dosen't listen at all! I never spank her but she is a trash digger, a jumper, and is a little rough with the kids. I try positive training but I think the old owner really did some damage! Help me heal my broken hearted Boxer!!!!!

Laylas Mom -

Please post your Introduction. This is something required of all new members, and is stated in the Rules (in addition to the email you received upon registration)

www.boxerworld.com/rules

As for your female, I would contact your nearest Vet (and perhaps an experienced Breeder to mentor you though this) with help in this pregnancy.

Also, perhaps contact your nearest Boxer rescue for help in placing the puppies. They really are the best resource in terms of screening potential homes and helping spay/neuter the pups.

I realize you did not breed your female and that she came to you pregnant, however please note the following from the Rules, in terms of what cannot be discussed here:

Discussion of breeding practices that would be deemed by most to be unethical or irresponsible. This includes, but is not limited to: breeding white boxers; breeding young dogs; breeding untested dogs; breeding for any purpose other than to improve the breed and/or your line). If you wish to post about your breeding program on this site, you need to be prepared to provide evidence of the health testing undertaken.

References to other boxer boards/lists/communities or to breeders sites is forbidden. Only breeders doing health tests and participating on BW can mention their site and/or breeding program on the board". Send email to contact@boxerworld.com if you fit these conditions and only after approval you are authorized to post your link.
Back yard breeders and commercial breeders are not welcome. You can check the rescue section at http://boxerworld.com/rescue to see who they are.

Good luck! :)

Completely Boxer Crazy
You are in for a LONG and tiring 8 weeks when the pups arrive, because that's how long they need to stay with mom. They wean at 4 weeks, but will still nurse occasionally while weaning. I don't have any true experience with pregnancies, but we did have a rescue female deliver 6 pups last summer and the 8 weeks that followed was very interesting to say the least.

Where in Texas are you?

I am in west Texas. Abilene. i know the next 8 weks are going to be hard but also joyful! I think I am just as nervous as she is she has started pacing around and obviously not going to deliver in the welping box we built oh well as long as she is comfy right!? Glad I have a carpet shampooer.

I don't know what to say about the pregnacy but you are a wonderful person to take on such a task..good luck..and we will be here for support...appicon

Puppies today?

Well have built layla a welping box and gave her her own room weeks ago and I just had a feeling she wouldn't use it and today she decided to nest under the front porch I can not get her out even with the best treats. I called my vet and they said not to forcebly move her and she is comfy there. I am worried about the heat since she is an inside dog. Texas summer is awful! Well wish me luck!!!!!

Oh, poor Layla -- sounds like labor is near. Not even a pice of chicken or some yummy people food can get her to come in the house, no?

I would try with all my might to get her out, but if that just does not work, make sure she has plenty of water. We are in Texas too and I know sometimes I can barely stand it!

Good luck ;)
