Sorry i didn't update this post....

Sorry if anyone didn't catch this new thread i put in which was updating you on Ellie's results....

Anyone who has been following our painful journey through tests and waiting.. we have now got the result that we most dreaded.... Ellie went in this morning for a scan on her kidneys and it has shown that her right kidney is not functioning at all.. she has a major kidney infection in her left kidney so they were unable to tell us how much of her left kidney is working.. we now have to wait anywhere between 3-6 weeks for the antibiotics to clear the infection.

We have been advised that her right kidney may need to be removed once the infection has gone as she will be prone to future infection which will damage her working left kidney.

My poor baby... i haven't stopped crying since i picked her up, why is she going through all this, if i'm honest i no longer feel positive about anything and i feel as though i'm losing faith.

Please let me know if you or anyone you know has been through this and what the outcome was.. my head is full of percentages which are making no sense... apparently there was only a 20% chance of her have kidney disease, i guess the odd are not on our side!!!!!

Please keep Ellie in your prayers.. and keep sending those positive vibes...

I am sorry about the bad news. Don't lose faith. Ellie has made it this far. I know it's easier said than done but I will be praying for you. The pics are way too cute. She is a beauty!

Praying you get positive results. Ellie is a very beautiful girl and its such a shame that she has had to go through so much so young. I have been very fortunate that I have never had anything serious yet to happen to any of my kids, and I know it has to be heartbreaking to be going through this with Ellie, as just reading of yours and others misfortunes always tears me up, and makes me fear the worst could be around the corner any day. Especially since my Stella is getting older now at 7 years 5.5 months, and Beau isn't exactly a baby anymore at 4 years 1 month. My rescues are still young (Rat Terrier mix, Border Collie mix), and fortunately (as far as I know) not really prone to as many medical issues as Boxers. We are all praying for you, and hope for the best.

Here is a thought, Is it possible for the vet to possibly use a local anesthetic that may not be as hard on the kidneys. I know it must be better from a surgeons prespective if they have the patient under. If putting her fully under is not possible it seems that maybe they could restrain her and use a local on the area to be operated on. Hope you get some good news.

This thread is tearing my heart out. I cannot believe how much I am wishing I could send enough healing vibes from Oregon to help your Ellie. I really wish I could. I remember watching Magic go through all her vet experience and see her change into a scared little girl; it was so difficult. I truly understand what your are going through and through my tears I wish with my whole heart that this situation turns out well and that Ellie is soon feeling better. I am thinking positive...please know that my thoughts are with you and your sweet beautiful baby.

Have you gotten a second opinion? I am not insinuating anything but are you 100% positive that your doctor not is taking advantage of your love for your pet? I am an emergency medical physician and NOT A VET and in no way disreguard the advice of another medical professional but as you tell me the tumor was benign and the kidneys are infected, it seems to me that you have suffered undue angst and worries for a condition that would have immediatley been ruled a kidney infection in an emergency room and readily treated. As doctors, we HAVE to tell you all of the worst possibilities and often don't tell you our gut instinct. Again, perhaps I am overstepping my bounds

Thank you all for your kind words... we are wrapping our precious baby in lots of love hoping that this will all go away, which i know it wont but we can at least hope that we have some good news.

I haven't got a second opinion as i do truely trust the vet that is dealing with Ellie... he was also excellent with some close friends of ours baby. Its very complicated but Ellie hasn't just got an infection it has been confirmed that she has kidney disease in her right kidney.. this kidney is no longer working!!!

I am thankful that the lump was not cancerous and i have been advised that vets remove these lump almost straight away and then they get send off for testing.. Ellie couldn't have this lump removed as the test showed she may not be stong enough for surgery due to a problem with her kidneys.

Thank you 'wrinkle' for your concern and if i hadn't trusted our vet as much as i do i would get a second opinion for sure.

Ellie has got the vets on Wednesday for a urine test to see if the kidney infection has gone.. hopefully it has.. then Ellie will have further tests to determine how much of her left kidney is working.. only if it is working fully can we consider having her right kidney removed to stop her left one keep getting kidney infection. If her left one isn't working fully.. we will then have a problem!!!!! :(

I'll keep you posted... i hope i'm explaining all this well so you understand, i have to keep explaining it to family... its just so complex i pray that we get all the answers soon.. good or bad so that we can live our life and make every single second of Ellie's life perfect filled with love and fun.

Hey Vickie--I understand how upset you are but a lot of people and pets live with only 1 kidney, they just have to adjust their diet..don't give up..and even if you trust this vet with your life I would still get a second opinion if nothing else to confirm it in my mind...good luck and sending slobbery kisses to you and Ellie! Keep us posted...

Vicky, I can not imagine what you are going through and I am so sorry. Like Laura said, lots of people and animals live a full and healthy life with just one kidney. Sending tons of positive vibes to Ellie and some great big hugs!!! Keep us posted and Ellie, you keep fighting!!!!
