Boxer Buddy
Rocky went through 2-1/2 hours of surgery yesterday. When they opened his belly up they found a raging infection in his belly and upper intestines and he had perforated bowels. They tried to get all the infection out but aren't sure that they did. They also found a dime, a rock, some undecipherable cloth and a pair of undies. They have him on the strongest antibiotics and are hoping for the best. They have raised his prognosis from touch and go to guarded but said that we may lose him. I'm so sad and beside myself with guilt. I don't know how he got this infection and how long he has had it. The vet told me that we will never know how long he's had the infection or how he got it. This is where I wish that dogs could talk! He's only 17 months old and he is a scavenger. We have our house puppy proofed but he still tends to eat things that he shouldn't.
They are having a hard time regulating his blood pressure. It has been extremely low and they said it could compromise his organs. I'm worried that he will never be the same.
We went to visit him this morning and he looked so pathetic. He was laying on his side covered in a blanket. He did respond to me when I sat by him and talked to him but only with his eyes. My husband looked at his incision and said that it was 12 inches long.
Does anyone have any first had experience with any of this? I have always gotten such kind words and response from everyone on these boards. Please keep Rocky in your prayers. Every little prayer helps. Thank you.
