Prairie dog food

Anyone have any expirence with this food? It is made by Nature's Variety and is sold by an awsome local pet store that I go to (they sell nothing buy Canidae, CS, Eagle Pack, etc). I just switched Luka to Canidae as it seemed the Chicken Soup was a little too rich for him and he was getting tired of it. And I was giving him puppy food as per the breeder and wanted to move him off of that.
So, I picked up some wet Prairie food (duck) and he loved it. It is pretty rare for Luka to "wolf" anything down (even people food) but he was close! He finished it all mixed w/ the Canidae (I also got some wet Canidae).
Anyway, I was just wondering if there were any expirences with it, Luka seems to like it. They have lots of interesting flavors- venison, rabbit, lamb and include things like blueberries and broccoli. The ingredients look great for the wet (and it looks / smells good):

I have heard nothing but praise for the dry kibble, apparently the bio-coating process they use really makes a difference.

buster is on Prarie. He gets 2 cups beef&barley kibble per day, and some of their raw medallions (beef) for breakfast, and a couple of the freeze dried (also beef) for snacks. Great stools and great coat. Only other food I have found that he agrees with is NB D&P. Probably one more month on this and I will try Candidae. Hopefully that works and I can have 3 foods for him to rotate throughout the year.

Boo is on Prairie.... & I will switch Leo to Prairie in a few weeks ....Boo does great...I switch flavors about every 4 months ....I am very happy with Prairie...less poop & very easy to clean up ...

i have heard good things about this brand, but have yet to try it. I will definately be our next food rotation. the only place i saw it for sale (in San Fran) was quite expensive if i remember correctly. How much does the dry cost in other parts of the states?

Hey Kat,

We get ours at Pet Food Express and it runs about $26 for a 15lb bag (or is it 20?) anyhoo... they also sell it at PetFood/PetVet, and I think it's a little bit cheaper there.

IMO, it's a GREAT food.

I haven't tried the dry yet- just the wet- I mix it with Canidae because Luka doesn't like Canidae's wet food. Plus, the Prarie has exotic and different flavors (Duck & venison were a hit, haven't tried lamb yet). I though their dry food had too many grains listed? Anyway, the wet ingredients are awsome and Luka loves it. The wet is a little pricy- like $1.50 a can (for Venison $2.25 :eek. But he only gets a tablespoon or two once a day, so it's a manageable price.

Luka really likes the food tho, which is great cause he gets so bored. I'd like to dry the dry tho, all the positive responses are helpful- thanks!

prairie food

I just recently switched George to the prairie dry food,using the beef and barley. He really enjoys it and eats it up! We switch foods frequently as he gets bored and won't eat-my vet does not agree with this and says I have now conditioned him that if he doesn't eat his food, he gets something different. I only use the best foods(wellness, blue buffalo, sensible choice, solid gold, chicken soup to name some that we have been thru!) but I don 't blame him for getting bored eating the same darn thing day after day. I really think he was missing the beef flavor as most of the other foods are poultry, or fish. We feed him 2 cups the morning and 2 cups in the evening. He too gave up the lunchtime meal a while ago,so we increased his morning and evening feeds to make up for that meal. George is a big boy-very tall (I have people ask if he is part Great Dane all the time) and now weighs close to 80 pounds. Now that he has turned 3 yrs he is finally starting to fill out as he was always so lean-I thought he looked too skinny but he looks great now.
