Potty Training

I HAVE HAD MY PUPPY FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS, HE IS JUST A PLAIN
FAWN BOXER. I CAN NOT GET HIM TO USE THE BATHROOM OUTSIDE. EVERY TIME HE POOPS OR PEES IN THE HOUSE I TELL HIM NO OR SPANK HIM AND THEN TAKE HIM OUTSIDE. AM I DOING THIS RIGHT? ALL OF THE PET STORED ARE TEKKING ME TO LOCK HIM UP IN A KENNEL ALL DAY LONG, I DO NOT BELIVE IN THAT OR IS THIS WHAT I AM SUPOSE TO DO? PLEASE HELP IT SEEMS IMPOSIBLE. :confused:

unfortunately, no, you are not doing this right. spanking your puppy will not teach him not to use the bathroom in the house, it will just teach him to be afraid to come to you. puppies will not remember that the mess is theirs and will just remember that once he came to you, he got punished (spanked in this case).

that link will be VERY helpful in assisting you with the transition to crate training.

okies to get back to your potty training efforts, when your puppy has an accident in the house, just clean it up. spanking him at this point will do nothing to teach him not to go in the house.

if he is in the act of messing, tell him "uh oh", pick him up, and take him outside where you want him to go.

be sure that you are taking him out after a nap, as soon as he eats, after he plays, and anytime you see him sniffing in circles or squatting like he has to go.

also, take him out on a leash to the spot you want him to go to and say "go potty" or "bathroom" or whatever word you want to use for him to associate with going to the bathroom. when he is going to the bathroom, tell him good boy very quietly so as to not excite him. once he's done, give him a treat and praise him.

PLEASE HELP IT SEEMS IMPOSIBLE.

this will take a LOT of work, it's not easy, but it's not impossible. just stay calm (which is hard to do at times, i know. just take a deep breath and u should be ok) and be consistent with him. also, use treats all the time while potty training and he will learn. also remember that he's only eight weeks old, everything is still new to him and he's learning alot about you and your home and his role.

I am glad that your pup is potty trained and Vasha gave you wonderful advice :D But please do not type in all caps as that means you are yelling.

When we use the term "potty trained" does that mean that the pup/dog is able to notify you of needing to go out no matter what? OR does that mean simply that the pup no longer has accidents because the owner is diligent in taking him out when necessary.

Just trying to understand the terminology.

Potty trained means to me, that the pup no longer has accidents in the house, because he/she has learned to hold it until our scheduled potty break.

When Kaiser notifies me, by ringing the bell, that's just successful Bell Training. Still teaching Lola the bell thing tho

"Potty trained" to me means the dog no longer has accidents in the house because they learned where the proper elimination spot is and how to properly notify the owner he/she needs to go out to potty. However it comes down to the doggie not eliminating in the house basically.
