Romeo is 3-1/2 months old. We're having some problems with potty training. He sleeps through the night without a whimper (cuz he's snuggled up with me!). I take him out as soon as we get up in the morning and he poops and pees. When he wakes up from a nap I take him out immediately. I know that about an hour after he eats, he will have to go poop so I take him out. After he's done playing hard, I take him out and he pees. When I tell him "go potty" or "go poop" and he does, he gets a treat. So that's all working wonderfully, BUT he doesn't "ask" to go potty yet - if he has to pee at some random time, he just squats on the carpet. Am I asking too much of him too soon? We went for a walk this morning - he peed numerous times and pooped. As soon as we got in the house he peed on the floor! I don't remember how old my other boys were when they finally asked to go out.

You could try hanging a bell on the door. Have Romeo hit it with his paw or nose, everytime before you go out. He will soon get the idea, that when he rings the bell, the door will open and he gets to go out. He will soon get the idea.

Good luck!

We have a bell on the door. Rocco (who passed in Jan) learned that as a puppy in one day. Dino, our 7 yr old, NEVER grasped the idea of it! But I have been ringing the bell as we go out - I just wish Dino would be a good (smart!) big brother and help us out!

I couldn't trust my girl fully until she was around 6 months. She did the same as you're describing. I hung bells up too, she never really figured them out either. But finally something clicked and she whines like crazy and paces around by the door until I let her out. Give your pup time, it'll click! :)
