Thanks to each of you!!

"When my kids were little, I used newspaper in 1/2 (back half) of their crate and put a blanket in the front. Like you, I am gone during the day and they are left alone anywhere from 6-8 hours, so it was my only option. "

This WILL BE my way to go. He will be crated in his 42in crate with the back half for his puppy pads. THAT IS A TERRIFIC IDEA!!

His nighttime crate (the one upstairs in my bedroom) will have the divider for him to have just enough room to stand and turn around. He should not want to soil that at all.

One last thing Kjames 7148, did you also feed him inside the crate???

No I don't feed them or water them in the crate.

I feed them at about 6:30 am and at about 3:30pm and that's it. I know that puppies are supposed to be fed more but this way worked out just fine for us. We just added some canned food to their kibble to get them to eat more and they did fine.

Diego's heart

You are extremely blessed. I pray that my story is similar as well. Did you use the pup pads too while he was in the crate?? or was your luch trip home all that he needed??

I am extremely blessed in more ways than one with this guy lovicon. But to answer your question, I did not use pee wee pads, decided to use old fashioned newspaper - but he didn't get it, aka Accident #1 :o. Amazingly, coming home during lunch was just fine - approx. 4 hours. I'm certain it's because he just slept the whole time. Regardless how long Diego is crated, whenever I come home, he's *just* waking up. Also, I got him sooner than planned and actually brought him to work with me the first week because I was housesitting a 45 min drive away. For the first few months, I borrowed one of my brother's medium size crates that he uses when travelling with his beagles. So by the time he started using his current x-lrg crate, I imagine he was accustomed to the whole thing.

I tried the pee pads in the crate.... but Angel makes more of a mess chewing them up, so I quit putting them in there.

She is really starting to get the hang of pottytraining. I just have to keep an eye on her. And she is learning the her potty signal "lose it" I chose it because I am always talking about potty, pee-pee and poo-poo with the kids and I didn't want to confuse her.

When is she going to stop getting me up at 4:30-5:30am to go out? And once she is up, she is up and doesn't want to go back to sleep. I am tried.:o

Princess was a blur cause I was a first time owner and was working from home...but Mac took about 3 weeks? I had him at work with me for about 2 weeks, and he was near perfect - he'd even run out of my office and to the external door when he needed to go. angelicon ( I was terrified of him peeing on the carpet)!

Since he's been crated til noon and then afternoons he's had a few accidents - mainly in the evenings - he peed on a stair when I was snooping around boxerworld the other night. foolicon

Raynas mom

Completely Boxer Crazy
When we got Rayna she was our first dog and we were in an apt. We taught her to go on pee pee pads, and that was a huge mistake (at least for us) it does teach them that its ok to go in the house. If her pad was dirty or she had bad aim it was all over the carpet! It took us a good 6 months for her to get potty trained that was after the pee pads!!!:(

We moved into a town house and now we have a back yard...we got Joe at 6 months and he is totaly potty trained at 3 months.

Boy did we learn our lesson ;)

I would definitely not recommend the pee pee padssmashicon

"Lose It..."

Angels's Angel, your command "lose it" cracked me up. I think that's a really good one. One of my coworkers taught his lab puppy to go on the command "drain".

By the way, Angel is beautiful. Our little white guy Vanilla Bean has little grey freckles all over his body now, but when we first brought him home he had the same shiny pink skin that your Angel does. Is her coat really soft? Vanilla Bean's is but our other boxer wasn't soft at all, his coat was really coarse, except on his chest (where he had white fur). It made me wonder if the white hair is softer and finer, in general? I'm sure someone on here wil know.

Someone was smiling down at me. Rowdy was 5 1/2 weeks old when I got him. The last time he had an accident in the house was when he was about 10 weeks old.

I've only had Xena for 1 week today, but we've only had 3 house accidents and 4 or 5 on the deck instead of the grass accidents. I have been very diligent at getting her outside quite frequently though. She does do her business in her kennel outside and went in there today instead of the grass. I get up 2 to 3 times per night until last night where she actually slept from 11:00 to 6:00!!! Yahoo!!!! I really needed the rest. I think she went to the door today, but it could be wishful thinking.
