Potty Training Idea

Hi everyone! This is my first authored post. Hope this works. hehe Anyway, Baron is my 5 month old Boxer child. He wakes me up at night every time he has to potty. I have never had a night time accident. However, during the day I am still trying to figure out his signal, if he even has one. It is driving me nuts as I feel like I am constantly cleaning up piddle spots. I watch him avidly and always let him out after naps or if I think it has been a while.

He is super smart and learns quick (don't they all ; ) Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions that I could use to train hum as a signal? I would appreciate it. I have the next few weeks off and will have plenty of time with him

I have no idea what you can do. He probably does something, you just haven't noticed it yet.

My Bella is 3 months old today and she turns around in circles with her nose on the floor when she needs to go out. Very obvious that she needs to go... but if she don't get out right at that second, it is too late.

You could try bell training, that's what I have done with other dogs. Hang a bell off the door you let him out. Everytime you take him out ring the bell. After a week or so have him ring the bell with his nose/paw before you take him out. After a whole (ours was about 3 weeks to a month) he will ring the bell when he needs to go out

I think I will try the bell training. That sounds like a great idea that might just work. I always use the same door for him, so there won't be any change in routine.

Bell training works great! Rocky was trained to ring a bell when he was around Baron's age. It took him no longer than 1 weekend to figure it out.

Every time you take baron out- make him hit the bell with his paw/face - and then say bell and reward. Then go outside immediately and stay out til he potties - then throw a MAJOR puppy party!

He'll get the hint

Oh dear, we'd be lost without the bells! Daisy's signals were very subtle when she was potty training, so bell training was our only hope! (Too bad she also rings them just to get my attention for playtime!)
