potty trained but...

i have a 4 mos. old boxer named boozer. he's so adorable and he really has LOTS of energy to burn. i have been potty training him and i must say, it is going well though there would still be accidents. because of his somewhat 'success' in potty training, he gets more 'free time' here inside the house, with supervision of course. problem is, he still destroys some of our things. i already taught him the 'leave it' command...sometimes it works but sometimes it doesnt. she ate brown envelopes and papers earlier so i had to crate him. he even broke one of our lamp shades because of his curiosity. he always nibbles on our curtains. im not blaming him but i really want him to behave well. i know he's still young and that he is always curious... but what training should i do in order for him to develop into a not so destructive dog?

Have you thought about attending a regular obedience class? Hes still very much a baby. And it would be like expecting a 2.5 yr old to be potty trained (some are, some arent) I think its more of an individual dog thing. I was told by an experienced breeder that she doesnt expect any of her dogs to be potty trained fully til 6mo old.

As for the destructiveness...I think that pretty much comes with the territory...my house seems like a tornado went through it in the matter of the last 3 months!

A good crate and a behaviorist might be in order. I dont know what you mean about more freedom, but it might be a little young to expect a puppy to deal with more freedom...

I'm still very much of an ameteur when it comes to Boxers, Anyone else have thoughts???

YES! Training!!!!

ALso, make sure your dog knows what he is supposed to be chewing on and messing around with. Sketch used to bite at pant legs and like anything he could find around the house. We would give a stern NO to him when he would chew on the stuff, then give him a toy immediately, then when he took the toy, we gave him some praise. He soon learned what his toys were and what in the house was not to be chewed on.
