Boxer Pal
Can anyone give us some pointers... I just brought home my two boxer pups (6 wks 4 days old). We am home all the time so we can do whatever is needed. My pups love the crate when I put them in there. Right now I have some newspaper out and they both hit the paper about 50% of the time. I notice that they go poop and pee right when I let them out of the crate first thing in the morning, 1/2 hour after they eat or sleep. I REALLY want to teach them to Go Outside to go the bathroom.

At what age can I start bringing them outside?
Are they to little yet (its vey cold here in NY)?
I live in a raised ranch, so we are mainly upstairs. What door do I use? They can't go up & down stairs yet. Front door thats between the first floor & second floor or downstairs sliding doors? Should I carry them all the way there when I want them to try and go...... until they can make the stair climb?

Has anyone gone through this or can anyone give us some advise. These pups are very smart and very good. We are here all the time so we can work with them. Remember they are only 6 weeks and 4 days old and have had two stes of shots.

Thanks in advance, Pete

Completely Boxer Crazy
Hmmm, I'm not sure if you could start housebreaking TOO early. If you are using newspaper now, do you use the potty training liquid stuff that they smell and it makes them want to potty on that spot? If you are using newspaper, I'd use that stuff and gradually move the newspaper closer to the door you'd take them out from. And that way they learn to go to the door and eventually you could use the liquid outside. If you want to go ahead and let them outside, just simply take them outside and place them where they should "go" and then say "go potty" and when they do, PRAISE like crazy. At 6 weeks old, they'd have to go out very often because they just can't hold it more than an hour or two. I hope I helped a little. Also try using the search button and you'll find TONS of info on housebreaking.
