post neutering issue

We got duke neutered this past Wednesday. He does not seem to be in pain, in fact we have had to keep him sedated so he doesn't jump out of his skin. He is rip-roaring ready to go! Here is the issue. His sack filled up later that night with fluid. The vet said this can happen, and we should be icing it a few times a day and it will go away. Has this happened to anyone else?? It's making me nervous that there is some sort of infection, but at the same time I don't want to bring him back to the vet if I don't have too. It really is not bothering Duke (even when we don't sedate him) He hasn't been licking at it at all, and he is STILL FULLLLLL of energy.

I have never had that happen with any of my males dogs that Iv'e had neutered, not to say that it couldn't. I have just never heard of that or experienced it.

My girl developed a pouch of fluid and blood at her incision site that bled a lot and then drained-never had a problem with a neuter. She came home on an antibiotic to prevent any problems. I might call the vet to just reassure yourself that all is well. Good luck

My boy developed some horrible swelling on his incision site, but his neuter was a little more involved because he had cryptorchidism. One night he suddenly swelled on the incision, but the swelling was not fluid filled. It was more of a hard lump and looked similar to a hernia. He ended up going back and having an abcess removed from an ER vet in the next town, and he was put on a 2nd set of antibiotics. During the whole process he was his usual self--full of energy and as happy as ever. You would never know he had any problems by just looking at him.

After the ER surgery he developed another huge lump the very same night, but his next visit was to a new vet on the following morning. The new vet suggested it was just swelling from all the trauma of 2 major surgeries in 3 days, and suggested we wait it out. It took several weeks, but the swelling went away. Now I wonder if the 2nd surgery that was performed by the ER doctors was even necessary, especially since it cost us over $450. The truth is, I will never know for sure. But I can't say I regret taking my boy in to be checked out. If you are experiencing anything that makes you uneasy, than take him to the vet to get it checked; don't wait until it gets worse at 12:00 AM and end up having to pay 3x the vet bill at an ER clinic.

Thanks for your replies. Duke seems to be doing fine. I talked to the vet and they said that this sometimes happens in sexually mature dogs (He is one year). She said it will go away, and to just keep an eye on it.
