Boxer Pal
Our approx. 8-9yo Mojo (rescue Boxer) had his second knee surgery on Wednesday afternoon and we got to bring him home yesterday. His previous knee surgery on the other knee was a couple of years ago and he seemed to bounce back fairly well even early on. This time around he seems uncomfortable and I notice him trembling frequently. I am also wondering why Mojo was not sent home with pain meds. They gave us some the previous week when he was dx with the ligament tear but all we were sent home with were antibiotics post-surgery. My dh picked him up from the vet and apparently didn't asked about pain meds. We are giving him Tramadol Hydrochloride which from what I have read is more of a tylenol type thing.
I have tried calling the vet but they turn their phones over to an emergency pet clinic from Friday night to Monday morning and they could not help answer my questions. They could only offer me to bring him in for $150 exam and they MAY prescribe him some pain meds. I am pretty frustrated right now with this situation and wondered if anyone had been through this surgery before; like I said we have but this time seems different. I need to mention this second surgery is on his OTHER knee. Our other boxer (Maggie) had her knee repaired previously also and she was much more stable and healed very quickly.
Any thoughts on the trembling? He does not do well with kenneling and tends to not eat and is very upset with pacing and whining when he is kenneled away from home. I assume post-surgery he was fairly sedated but perhaps y'day he was more awake and the situation traumatized him but he couldn't pace like he normally would? He's been to this vet many times before for various issues and he is not spooked to go there; he runs in and is eager to see the staff; he's a big marshmellow and they all love him.
Any thoughts appreciated.
