Boomer
Wow, what patience! God bless you. Gina is only 7 months and we have a list as well..but, not as long as yours. Boomer has been a busy boy! I have had moments when I thought Gina would never learn no matter what I tried and then (just in the last 2 weeks) everything has changed. She comes when she is called, no more 'accidents' in the house, no more chewing everything she can get her mouth on, no more getting up on the bed or couch..no more anything bad:D :D :D! I'll tell you, it was almost frightening..What caused this sudden and welcomed change? We aren't positive but, we have discovered that she is an excellent swimmer. She absolutely loves it. Her 'sister' Ursula, (an 8 yr old Rottie/Chow mix and the serious Alpa) is a pretty good swimmer herself and up until 2 weeks ago Gina would just run along the side of the pond while Ursula showed off (reinforcing her Alpa position)! Gina decided she had had enough and in she went..did she ever! She is so good at water sports, fetching, chasing (those poor ducks!) and fishing (she actually went under water and came up with a fish in her mouth!) that Ursula just gave up. Now she runs along the side while Gina takes center stage! Somehow all of this has changed/ transfomed her. It's not just all the activity either..We think it has to do with her sense of accomplishment. She was a very badly abused rescue and we believe that finding something she excells in has helped heal all those old hurts. Because we (my husband and me) are the ones who provide this for her (we drive her to the pond and encourage her and praise her..I mean, she actually caught a fish..how could we not praise that?) she has bonded with us in a new way. All of this is only speculation of course but, maybe finding that special thing Boomer is really good at might help. Boomer is so lucky to have you as his Mom and we hope he finds his gift soon! Good luck to you..and please let us know when he finally calms down. We do hope for all of your sakes it is soon! :p
