Possible UTI or bladder infection?

This is a new development for our 10wk old pup Jazmine. We normally keep her crated during the day and I go home at lunch for about an hour and a half to take her out, feed, and play with her before returning to work. She is in the crate for about 4 hours in the morning and 4 in the afternoon during the day. She usually has one small pee spot while in the crate during the day. At night she is also crated and I get up mid way through to let her out to potty. No crate accidents during the night usually. Last night when I got up to let her out she had a small pee spot. I took her out and she went potty, then started crying an hour later to go again. This morning when we got up she went out as normal and I didn't think anything of it. I went home at lunch today and she had gone at least twice in her crate. I took her out and watched her for about 10 minutes. During that time she squatted at least 10 times to pee. The first time it was normal, but just about every time after that nothing was coming out. We went inside and I fed her and just a few minutes later she was at the door again. Just like before, alot of squats, but nothing or very little coming out. The kicker is that she just finished a 2 week bout of antibiotics on Monday for a different issue. I would think that that 2 week course would have knocked out a UTI if she had one?

Such a cute baby you have! Sounds just like a uti. Not all antibiotics will cure a uti. You must treat with the right one. Many times it will take more than one round to knock out the infection. A call to your vet would be helpfull.

It does sound rather a lot like a UTI - so a vet visit is in order.

On that note though, I must point out that you're crating your pup for far too long during the day. A 10 week old shouldn't be asked for more than 3 hours maximum. Asking more is likely to lead to health problems (including UTIs - which it seems may already have happened) and also risks teaching the pup to potty in her crate. That's extremely difficult to untrain once you've trained it - so really in your best interests (as well as hers) to avoid it.

I know you're coming home at lunch - and if you can't do more than that (I'm guessing you probably can't) then you really should not be crating her. It would be a better idea to gate her in the kitchen or some other hard floor room with some newspaper to relieve herself on. Beats the heck out of constant infections, or a dog trained to potty in their crate

Took her to the vet last night and he got Jaz started on a stronger antibiotic. She was on amoxicillin before and I can't remember the name of the new one. Chewable tablet though, which is nice. She did ok last night, no accidents in the crate. We set an alarm and got up twice to let her out to potty.

We recently finished fencing in our yard this week. I am toying with the idea of leaving her outside during the day, but I am just worried about her being there alone. We have been watching her outside and stopping any signs we see of digging or biting at the fence. Hopefully soon, she will get the idea. My other concern is that we are in Arkansas, and it's starting to get very hot and humid here with temps in the upper 90's. I have a water bowl that I can screw on a 2 liter full of water for her to have during the day though. I have a few trees and a partially covered patio for some shade.

We do take her to doggy day care 3x/week now. I guess I could always just make it everyday for a few weeks untill it's safer for her to hold it longer. She does love it there, the social butterfly of the daycare

I would not leave her outside alone while you are gone. She's far too young and could get into all sorts of trouble (not to mention disappearing). You're much better off puppy proofing a room and keeping her inside if you don't want to do doggie daycare everyday.

I can sympathize with puppy UTI's. Butler had them a lot as a puppy. I agree that she shouldn't be left outside as well when you're not there. Even when she gets older. You never know what can happen. When I worked, Butler went to daycare everyday and loved it. If you run out of options, again I agree that puppy proofing a room is your best solution. Good luck. I hope the UTI clears up really soon; they can be quite painful.

Thanks everyone. After just a few days on the baytril, I have noticed no more issues with the squatting and not peeing. Everything appears back to normal now. She still has another week on the antibiotic, but it appears it is working. Im glad it is clearing up as she starts her first puppy training class this Wednesday night!

I am glad to see that she is starting to feel better!
PLEASE DON"T LEAVE HER OUTSIDE ALONE.
This would be like leaving an INFANT human outside only this one is quite capable of moving around and possibly injuring itself, getting stung/bitten, STOLEN, etc....
Just because they have access to shade/water doesn't mean they will utilize them.
Like others have mentioned, a safe-easliy cleaned floor somewhere in the home is a better choice and this isn't something that will have to last long term. Day care is also a great choice as would a pet sitter coming in a couple of times to let her out to stretch and potty.

Happy to hear that your baby no longer seems in discomfort. I have to agree with other posters. P l e a s e DON'T leave her outside alone while you are away. There are far too many things that could happen.
