Possible Stroke?

So I generally don't post...but here goes
Last week our boxer, Sandy, had an episode while I was out. The hubby's said she sort of fell over to the right and then it looked like she might be having a seizure but it only lasted a few seconds. She had an accident on the floor shortly after but otherwise seemed fine. We chalked it up to old age and talked about the possibility of a stroke but she was completely back to her old self within 10 minutes.
Tonight,6 days later it happened again. She started falling like her back legs quit working, tried to run and just couldn't go, then she fell over to the right side and started breathing really heavy and just laid on the ground for around 5 minutes.
We are thinking she might have definitely had a stroke this time. I'm going to call the vet in the morning.
Our baby girl is getting up there, she is 10.5 years old we know our time with her might be coming to an end but our son is just distraught over the idea, she's his only sibling! :(

Could also be an arrhythmic heart which might be able to be controlled with meds. See your vet and if they rule out a stroke, check on getting a holter test done and see if an arrhythmia is what's causing the issues...

So sorry this is happening to your beloved Sandy. Sadly, it could be a tumor. Keeping my fingers crossed & send positive vibes as you try to figure this out with your vet.

Thanks. I called the vet this morning and they squeezed her in for an appt. So hopefully we'll find something out

The next steps after that would beShe had another "episode" on the way out of the house. It was so scary this time. I didn't think she was going to pull through. But she did and we made it to the vet... a tad late. He thinks that she's having seizures. Running bloodwork to see if there is something that can pinpoint the cause or tell us what medicine will work best.

sounds very much like seizures

Sometimes it can be hard to differentiate between syncope and seizures, but this does sound like a seizure. Two great resources are the yahoo group k9epileptics and this site here Canine epilepsy and diseases that cause seizures in dogs

My senior started having them and oddly enough, it wasn't any form of cancer. She definitely had neurologic deficits, but her neurologists were never able to find the actual cause so we just managed them as best we could with meds. We did find keppra to be the best med in terms of control and least amount of side effects. I hope the cause of your baby's are not anything serious.

My girl, who is eight, started having seizures a couple of months ago. They put her on phenobarbitol and , thankfully, the seizures have stopped. They are calling it late onset epilepsy- translation we have no real idea what it is. We are hopeful it is not a tumour and at this point think we have dodged that bullet as she is fine otherwise. I hope it is the same result for your baby.

Thanks for the link I'll definitely check that out. The vet says she's perfectly healthy other than the seizures. He wants me to video record if she has another and take that in.
Much thanks to you all.
