I posted this on Friday, but it disappeared without any explanation or response, so I'm posting it again as I have no idea what happened. I may be getting a 3 mo. old male dobie pup as an addition to my current 2.5 y.o. boxer male. In the past my boxer has been quite dominant, but this has decreased as he is getting older, so I assume he was just going through his teenage years. I have read that dobies can be quite dominant themselves and am not sure if this combo would be the best. Also, I live in an apartment building in Queens, NY if that weighs on anyone's advice or input.

Aside from the characteristics of each breed, the male/male combination may or may not work out - in general male/female pairings are the most harmonious. As far as apartment living, if you are already doing fine with your Boxer, then other than the "crowding" issue, as long as they continue to get plenty of exercise, that shouldn't be an issue. My sister has a female Doberman, who happens to not like Scrapper at all and isn't all that crazy about people other than them, either. On the other hand, my friend has a female Doberman who is as sweet as can be... so you have to evaluate the personality of each dog individually as well as consider the general tendencies of the breed.

No matter what dog you add, there will be a period of "working things out" as they decide between themselves who will be dominant in the relationship.

I have heard that Male Dobermans have a tendency to dislike all other male dogs whether intact or neutered.

The only dog that didn't like Gnarly at dog obedience school was a Doberman. He charged him and tried to rip his head off, luckily we only had five stitches in his foot from the ordeal (all while Gnarly was ON lead). And he didn't just try to fight once he did it repeatedly without the apology or restraint of the owner, but that's another story.

To my understanding male dobermans are very dominant and I would suggest not to pair your current male with another male as you did mention that he was dominant also, which could result in a war to acheive top position.

I agree with the others... a female Dobie would probably be a better choice to go with your male boxer.
Neutering your boxer, if he's not already neutered may help with some of the dominance issues.
