Poor Puppy! Just needed to vent

I was visiting with a friend of mine last night and she told me a good friend of hers just got a boxer puppy. He had taken it (at 9 weeks of age) to the dog park, and let him loose. In a matter of minutes, a pit bull had it and wouldn't let go. He tried prying the jaws loose, but that didn't work, so he beat it on the head until it dropped him. The poor puppy ended up with a fractured shoulder and multiple stitches. I'm not sure if the owner of the puppy was going to press charges or not. The puppy is in a semi-body cast (never heard of that) and then to add insult to injury (literally) the guy had his ears cropped a couple of weeks ago. The pup is 14 weeks old now. I guess I'm upset because I think both the owner and the pit bull owner tended to be irresposible in allowing, #1, a 9 week old puppy loose at a dog park, and #2, at the pit bull owner who allowed his dog to be unleashed with obvious aggresive, if not prey driven tendencies. And then, the poor puppy, who came from a byb where neither of the parents were even papered, had to go through an ear crop! Now I'm not against ear cropping, as we had Betty's cropped, although at the time she was possible going to be shown, but how could this owner put that puppy through all that? I hope he is not traumatized for life! I just felt so bad hearing that story and I knew my boxer world friends would understand. Thanks for letting me get this out of my system!

Do I understand this right? The puppy was attacked and is in a body cast and then a few weeks later they have his ears cropped! That's just wrong, that poor puppy. I hope he isn't traumatized either.

Sad situation but also makes me wonder what kind of a vet would crop a pup that had just gone through something so horrible not even be recovered from.

Yes, that's what I was told. I even asked her twice to make sure I was hearing it right. I know...it just makes my heart break. I can't even imagine a veterinarian agreeing to it.

How sad...what a way to start out life :(
I can't believe they would take the pup to the dog park, and let him loose on the adult/large dog side. Every dog park I have ever been to has a puppy/small dog side and a large dog side, two seperate enclosures so accidents like this do not happen..
And then to have his ears done on top of being in a cast...pathetic!

HOW SAD!? I just got Lucy a few days ago and I can't imagine her being hurt so bad.
Even her whining in her cage makes me cringe...

I hope the puppy is alright!

That is a bad situation all the way around. I would definately have made the pit bull owner pay at least half of the bill because it was half his stupidity, but the owner needs to pay half because it was half of his stupidity for letting a 9 week old pup run free at a dog park. I agree it is traumatic about the ear cropping after what it had been through. But, we had Buster's ears done and we had no plans to show him. I was totally against it at first, but DH made me agree to it if I wanted a second boxer because he loved the look. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. So, even though a dog won't be shown doesn't mean it is cruel for the owners to crop the ears (although in this situation it might have been due to previous trauma). It is all a matter of personal choice.

Poor little fellow, I just hate how the ignorance of man seems to cause animals such pain. I think that the owner could have waited until the pup was out of the body cast before cropping. Sending out (((((((feel better vibes))))))) to this little pup, and I hope this owner learned something from all of this and will become a better owner now.
