Hello all!! I have been a member of this site for some time, but usually just do searches to gather info. Poor Chili Baby is going into the vet tomorrow. She said not to feed him after 9 pm tonight (food OR water). Just wanted to see if anyone else out there had any other advice or warnings to give.

I'm so worried abot him. I think he knows something is up because he has not left my side all day (even worse than usual) and he's giving me those eyes (you know them). I just hope they don't hurt my little boy.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!

did you ensure they werent using the pre-anaesthetic (sedative) ACE or acepromazine? Generally its not good for deep chested dogs, but in boxers it can have really bad effects. It can givet hem something called heart block which could kill them.

I dont mean to make you any more nervous than you already are, just wanted to mention this. Its not guarenteed anything will happen to him if it is used, but no guarentee anythng wont happen either.

Your vet may already knows this and already decided to not give him ace, as a lot ive called around here know, but there are other safer alternatives such as valium or ketamine.

Don't apologize - that's exactly why I wanted to post..

Seriously, though, I'm glad you brought that to my attention. Thank you. I will call them today and make sure they don't use ACE on him. I appreciate the heads up.

Thanks again!

Tyson got neutered a week and a half ago and I swear I don't think he knows he was neutered! It was so hard to keep him quiet as he was acting like his normal self!

Overnight?!?!

I am so upset. I thought for some reason that since I dropped Chili off at 7AM that he could come home tonight. Now they inform me that they routinely keep him overnight. I just went up there to drop off his favorite toy and see how he is doing, and he is so wobbly I can't stop crying. I don't even think he recognized me or his toy!!

Will someone please reassure me that I did the right thing? I hate seeing him like that!!

Please send prayers for a quick recovery!!

Thanks!

That is strange that they keep him overnight. Muggsy had a cyst removed at the same time as he got nutered. We took him home that night and thank god we did the wound from his cyst broke open and we had to take him to the emergency clinic. I'm sorry I don't mean to worry you. The vet never had Muggsy stay the night because I argued that he got better care at home and we would notice if something was wrong and could help him. Ask if there will be someone there overnight and if not I would ask why they are keeping him.

Bring him home tonight

My vets also routinely keep the dogs overnight when they have surgery; but I've already consulted with my vet about when we get Gus neutered. They have agreed that we can schedule the surgery in the morning, they'll watch him all day then I can bring him home for the evening. Usually only emergency vet hospitals keep staff available at night, so he'll be monitored better by you at home. Maybe if you offer to bring him back for a check-up in the morning they will be more likely to release him tonight?

Gonna try....

I just called and they said my doc will be back at 4pm and to try back. He is well-aware that I am a worry-wart, so I'm sure he is expecting my call. Thanks for all the advice. You all are awesome!!

Please let us know if they let you take him home. I would be bugging the shit out of them. They would send Muggs home just to shut me up. They understand that we are just worried parents. I still think my vet thinks I am nutso.
