Did anyone see the Dr. Phil show today? They featured parents trying to get help for their kids. One family had a boxer and the 4 year old boy whacked him on the back with a toy. The boxer didn't do anything, Thank Goodness!!! I just thought what a poor suffering dog, good dog! That just showed America what the Boxer breed will suffer through. Cause the way this kid acted, he likes to hit a lot!! I'm glad the lady is getting help for herself and her kid, she needs it. She can't hardly bring herself to discipline her 4- year old kid. But you know if that dog would finally have enough, and reaact to being hit, they would probably throw the dog out. Poor Baby!:(

I hope that Dr. Phil gave them some good advice to help them. Hopefully the boy isn't hitting the boxer too hard - poor little guy, yes the boxer!

I think that any 4 year old hitting a dog is "hitting too hard" I really think that hitting is unnecessary period! Also I THINK that it sets a precedence for what this boy thinks is acceptable behavior in the future. Rest assured that if he continues this behavior, either his Boxer or a less forgiving dog WILL bite him in the future, and it will be the dogs fault, not the fault of the parent(s) or the boy!! (sarcasm injected for your reading pleasure):mad: :(
Actually I hope Dr Phil layed into the parent for allowing this behavior!!!

Please let me clarify - I know hitting is unacceptable and we never hit Mason and do not allow anyone else to do so either. I just hope that the boxer isn't getting hurt since the parents have now gone and seeked help to end this behavior. I know a four year old can inflict damage so I am hoping that he isn't hitting this boxer will as much force as possible. I didn't see the show so I don't know how hard the boy was hitting him.
At any rate, I hope this is resolved so the child and his parents learn how to control this behavior. I guess what I meant was that I hope the boxer isn't being hurt in the meantime.

marcia, we are of the same mind, my post was just thrown out for public consumption. I did not see the show either, not a big Dr. Phil fan here. Sorry if it looked like I was calling you out, not my intention at all. Peace!!!
It just really ticks me off that the parents would let it get to that, seems to me that the parents have no cocern for their childs safety, and WHEN something goes horribly wrong, the animal will be the one blamed and ultimatley punished for the very behavior the should have gotten the child a time out (at the least a stern talking to) the FIRST time it happened, not taking it to Dr Phil AFTER the behavior has set in. In part I feel that is why my(our) beloved breed has such a "vicious" reputation. "Good family dogs" are only good to the family that respects them as well. And that to me is what it boils down to, RESPECT for a living thing. A living thing that could tear you in two if it felt threatned no less.

AAHHH, I still love Dr. Phil, Yes He did give the parents a piece of his mind!! The lady felt she was being too harsh by grounding the kid from the T.V. for one whole day-----so she would let the kid off punishment. Good Grief!! Dr. Phil didn't discuss hitting the dog, but he did discuss the 4 year old hitting his younger brother in the face. They showed this kid using items to hit with, such as those Hulk Hands that they sell as toys and a toy to hit the dog with. This kid was a little demon! Most abusive children start their behaviour by being abusive to the family pet. I know he is only 4!He was a big 4 though. Hee-Hee Anyway-----I'm just glad that the boxer showed America how patient and forgiving they are as a breed! Hopefully the parents will wake up now. I still am proud of that dog!

After I re-read my post it was a little misleading and I didn't want anyone else to take it the wrong way so I thought I'd elaborate...I knew what you meant. Peace to you as well!

I punched my sister in the nose ONCE, mom and pop put a quick, fast halt to that behavior!!! Good thing too cause she is bigger than me now!!!
