Preston is 16 months now. We rescued him at 8 months and trained him then to go potty on the side of house (crushed rock area). He already knew how to use a doggie door.

He has been great with only the occasional pee on the lawn when he has been playing and is excited.

Until Sat when we got a torrential monsoon downpour for hours. Sunday and Monday morning he has been pooping on the lawn and on the patio. I try to catch him but can't always. I did clean it up and put the poop back in his potty area.

Would he change his behavior if the rain washed away his scent??? I can't think of another reason.

Now he did poop in the right spot once today on his own though so maybe he will return to business as usual?

Well after several days of being diligent and ensuring he is going again where I want him too, he seems to be back in his normal routine.

I would still like to know why this happened though.

Maybe he doesn't like the rain???

He might not like the rain. I know my boy will stand at the door and cry. we have to pick him up or push him out the door to go. Your dog might have been afraid it was going to rain again and didn't want to be caught in it. I know the deck isn't a perfered place but our guy would rather hold it then go in the rain.

When it rains here or snows - rocky pees and poops on the concrete. Otherwise he goes in this one corner of grass (dead already)

i have no idea why he does it - I think he just hates when its raining and goes as fast as he can so he is not outside long

After all that rain was it wet where he normally went? My dogs avoid wet places, so I'm thinking there may have been some puddles he was avoiding.
