Pooping a ton on Canidae...

Sorry for the rather "direct" title! But my boxer is 1 1/2 and he poops 5-6 times a day. Does anyone else's dog poop this much on a human grade food? I thought Canidae was supposed to keep him from pooping as much b/c it had less "fillers." Any thoughts would be definitely appreciated!! Thanks!

Sounds like your boxer's stomach is sensitive or allergic to something that is in Candiae, and it getting rid of the food without fully processing it, thus the extra poops. Try another premium food with some different ingredients and find out what he is sensitive to.

I agree 100% with BooBoo and Riley. My dog has trouble with Lamb (I found this out the hard way).

Sounds like your dog is having trouble with something in the Canidae -- or maybe it's just the switch itself. Did you blend the Canidae gradually (over the course of a week or 2 with the old food)?? Sometimes a harsh change can upset their tummies.

Other than that, try another premium food with slightly different ingredients so that you can isolate the problem

Good luck

Are the poops normal or loose? If they're normal then maybe you're just feeding him too much?

I noticed when I increased Owen's food intake (Solid Gold) his started pooping a lot more, about 5-6x a day. I didn't change his food, just increased it a bit and before I increased it he was going 3x a day. It was normal and everything so it was just the extra food I was giving him. I heard sometimes kibble in general can make dogs poop more, compared to raw or homecooked.

Or as other people suggested, maybe the food is too rich for him or something.

Good luck.

I believe Tae poops about five times on Canidae, as well. One poop on the AM walk; one poop before I leave for work, one-two poops on our PM walk an occasionally a poop before bed. It occurred to me that this is a lot of poop, too! Sheesh, what a strange thing to write about. LOL

How many times/day should a dog poop on a high quality food that agrees with him/her?

Well, you also need to factor in that you should be feeding him quite a bit LESS of the high quality food (since it does not contain all of the "cheap fillers")

If you are feeding him the same amount that you fed him when you were feeding the "low quality" food, then that is a problem.

I am feeding Herkie a Canidae/Nutro mix....I was switching from Nutro to Canidae, but when I got to 1 can Canidae/1 can Nutro...he just seems to be doing so well on that, that I haven't completed his change. Usually he poops 1 time in the am, 1 time in the pm...and every once in awhile will poop in the afternoon.

But possibly, something in Canidae may not agree with him, and a gradual change to another kibble may be in order. You have to remember, every food doesn't agree with every dog. Sometimes you have to play around with different kibbles in order to find just the right one. Good Luck.

I am definitely feeding less Canidae vs. the other kibbles Tae has been on. She weigh 40 lbs and she gets slightly less than 1 cup per meal. I would say her poop is less "voluminous" [YUCK] than when I first got her and she was on Beneful [yuck again].
