Not my favorite thing to do, and I am sure it is not your favorite thing to do, but.........

What do you use? I have used plastic bags and garden shovels, but am currently looking into a spring action one handed plastic pooper scooper. There are two models to choose from and I would need the one with teeth-like claws at the end to be used on grassy areas.
I have spoken with several people who love this method of not having to bend over, yet say the product is not durable and has to be replaced every couple of months. I plan on emptying the waste product into a garbage lined tin can in my garage until trash pick up, which is once per week. Any ideas for cutting down on the smell until then? Thanks for much!

Definately not my favorite thing. I just bought a two piece picker upper unit. One piece is a collection "tray" and the other is the scooper thing. Both pieces have long handles so no bending is required, and are metal. Works much better than anything else I have tried. The pieces also clean up very easily.

I was going to look into purchasing a diaper pail with an oder eater. I know some take a regular trash bag and the lid does not have to be removed to place waste inside (I have to make sure the top opening will accommodate the picker upper). Presently, I am doing the same thing with a trash can that you are, but the thought of opening the can to add to it during the summer months - yuck.

I use a 2 piece picker upper. My daughter picked it out many years ago and I thought I would hate it, but it has lasted unlike all the plastic one I went through. Ours came from a hardware store, it has wooden broom like handles that screw in, one piece is the pusher piece made of metal, the other is a flat bottom type metal tray with 3 sides. It is totally manual, no springs. Very old fashioned and durable. It works on all surfaces including grass.

We use the spring action one handed one also. We replace it about once a year, but they aren't that expensive and it is worth it not to have to bend over. I think it works very well and my son can use it too! ;)

I actually just ordered this one:
http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/...=203&mscssid=1G75LUWL5VHR8KEKMSDNQA1BX7AAFP7A

have been using it for about a week or so now and it seems to be ok. It feels durable.
Before that, I was just using a shovel and I was sick of picking up the same piece of poop 3 times or not getting the whole pile, the poopr scooper is definately better.

As for "keeping" the poop, I have a culligan type water jug with the top cut off. I place a garbage bag into it and keep it in the bushes and when the dogs poop, I go behind and scoop it and dump it into the jug. The bag is open and easily accessed so the smell doesn't buils up and the flies don't seem to bother it much, maybe because it is in the bushes?

We use the spring loaded one and a 5 gallon home depot bucket and lid with a trash bag in it. The lid we leave loose and it keeps the bugs out and doesn't smell too bad. I am amazed at how much my two poop and one is an eater...very gross.

Has anyone used the poop disposal that you put in your yard? you add enzymes and it breaks down the poop?
