Sadies Dad

Hey guys, I finally worked up the guts to start feeding raw to my Sadie. She is 28 months old and about 70 pounds. I was feeding her chicken soup but decided to go with real food. Anyway, on day one she ate a pound of wing in the am and another pound at night. She pooped her usual four times and no runny ones. Day 2 she ate a pound of leg quarters in the morning and another pound of leg quarters at night. My concern is this, she only pooped once on day 2 and it was about a tablespoon full of runny mucousy poop. It is the morning of day three and she is driving me crazy to eat, but she still has not pooped. She isnt acting like she is in distress no hard abdomin, she is running and playing as usual. Should I be worried or is this something that is normal? She has never done this before.

It's normal-ish :) The amount that dogs poop when fed kibble is 2-3 times what they poop when fed properly digestible food. So expect there to be a lot less (it usually stinks a great deal less also).

The first day with four bowel movements (expect 1-2 smaller ones on raw) was probably the remains of kibble exiting the system. Since then though, it does sound a bit on the low side. If things don't move on within the next day, then I'd be inclined to suspect that she may be just a little constipated. That's easy to fix though - just feed a boneless meal (can include a bit of offal).

Glad to hear it's going well. Rogue poops about 3times a day on raw. It only goes a bit like duck poop when she's had too much liver. :D
