Poop privacy?

We always trained to go outside even here in Michigan in the winter. I too think it is confusing and double training to pad train then outdoor train. If we caught puppy squatting we also scooped her up and took her out, don't scare her, act real happy - come on cutie we're going outside and then praise like crazy. I would try to stay around until she is used to going in front of you, that might be a problem later. She is young enough now that she will learn anything you want to teach her. I would start to get her to go while on a leash before too long also, there might be times when she has to and she needs to know that it's ok. We never put SuzyQ's crate in our room, we kept it in the living room, in front of the patio door so she could see outdoors. She didn't stay in it at night very long, she housebroke pretty easy and slept through the night wherever she slept. Now she has pillow beds upstairs in our room and downstairs in the living room and divides her time between them. I should have such a good life.

Minx will not go if I am watching her. She will give me stink eye and move to a spot behind the kid's sliding board where I can't see her and go.

Loki is pretty much the same way. When I let him out in the morning to do his business, he'll do his circles, I guess trying to work it all down... find his spot and squat, but before that he looks over at me to make sure I'm not looking. If he catches me looking, then he'll stare at ME the whole time he's going... odd little bugger!!! ha!

Shy or not shy ?

I currently own a Boxer/Mastiff and she's a yr old. Eversince she was young I used to watch her go.. not that i'm a pervert :P but I like to see if it's a healthy one.. It kind of helped that I live in Winnipeg and I had her young in the winter.. We get -40 winters so trust me when it's that cold they go out.. they do their business fast, no matter who's watching and race back inside.. This definetly helped me with her training. I can now take her outside without her whining and tell her to "go pee" and she will pee or poop on command right in front of me.. it's kind of wierd and my freinds laugh.. but it sure helps when i'm in a hurry and I have to let her out quickly.

When my boxers were puppies, I always picked them up and carried them outside, when I was taking them out of their crate. I would do this until I was sure that they had a little control over their bladder and would be able to make it to the door without having accidents.
