Pool ...Didn't Work

Big Drinking Bowl???

I bought a small plastic pool (43" across & 8 " deep) for for Baxter last year. He will not get in it. He thinks it is just a large drinking bowl. Get wet??? Ya right!!! I do use it for his summer baths though! I fill it with water and carry out hot water to make it tepid. He will only get in it with some coaxing ... wanting to be an obedient dog. Then he stands there tolerating me getting him wet ... looking so pitiful. I have even went so far as to place a rubber mat in it so there is no slipping. Guess it is to remain moms big doggie bathtub!

Well the good thing is that at least you put it to good use. No waste of money. It's also a good idea for me in case she doesn't use it. I know my son will so that's good too.

Diablo doesn't have a pool, but he loves puddles, showers and the ocean. Sure makes bath time a lot easier. Don't know if he can swim, though, that will be an interesting adventure. I've read some posts that say Boxers aren't swimmers. Anyone have a swimmer?

Here we are on this little island surrounded by water and I thought Sugar Ray needed to know how to swim both for safety and to cool off so off to 'dog beach' here in Key West and she took to the water like a duck.

So we thought our swimming pool would be easy...why would she ever be predictable. Her first swim in the pool came by accident when she chased a cat or chicken or roster (yes, they all roam the yards here) thru the garden and fell in. Nothing graceful about it and she game up and we rescued her out of the deep end. Since then we have to carry her into the pool while she hangs on for dear life, paws around the neck, head on top of my head and attempts to get her legs around my waist. She swims to the steps like Esther Williams then runs laps around the deck.

The important part was making sure she knew how to get out...we didn't realize at first she couldn't see the steps which are inset into the pool. While she is no Lab, she is pretty much in the swim of things!
