Hello. We've had Boo, our pom tzu mix since he was a puppy. He is about two and a half years old now. Roxy has been with us a few weeks. Boo loves playing with our cat, but absolutely does not like Roxy. Boo only weighs about 6 pounds and everytime roxy gets close to him, he growls at her. He will even snip at her if she gets too close. He will run away and get in his kennel whenever she comes around any more.

Do you think he will get better with her? She is starting to avoid him now, but I hate that they don't get along.

My mom has two minture maltese and two pugs and it took them awhile when Lily was around (OK, a long while) but we also don't live with her and they eventually got over it. :)

We have been going through the same situation with our 70lb black lab. Drake is only 9 weeks old, and unfortunately learning the hard way! He has been nipped once already, but since then he is a little more conscious as to whether our lab wants to play or be left alone. I think Roxy will eventually learn too, unfortunately it make take the growling and even the odd nip by your other dog to tell Roxy when and when not its play time. We have talked to our vet on several occassions about this, along with our trainer. Both have suggested to keep them seperate for a large part of the day and allow the older dog an "out" in terms of a place to go to get away from Drake! Good luck!

I had a similar problem with Brutus and my GF's mom's shih tzu Remy. When Brutus is around Remy, Remy acts like he wants nothing to do with Brutus and he did snip at Brutus a few times on different occasions. Also the fact that my GF's mom gives Brutus way more attention than Remy doesn't help any either. A matter of fact the first night we took Brutus over there she gave Brutus so much attention that after we left that night she told us Remy didn't want anything to do with her for like two or three days. He refused to sleep in the room with her. Which is funny because Remy the male shih tzu is a lil over a year and the female Mia are the same age and are siblings but Mia just lets them do their "Guy thing" and leaves them alone. She actually runs from them or goes to another floor. It's kind of funny.
