Plenty of cool water

Summer, and the hot weather it brings, is nearly upon us in the northern hemisphere.

I posted this tip last year, but many, particularly new members may have missed it.

Here's a neat and simple way to provide plenty of cool water for hours without constantly emptying and refilling the bowl. This is really good for dogs who like to spend considerable time out doors.

Get a small cooler that will hold a couple of six packs. The one I use measures 8" x 11" by about 8" high without the top. White is the best color since it reflects heat.

Fill it about half full of ice, then fill with water. Indoors, it will still have some ice in it in the evening. Outdoors, in a shady place, the ice may disappear by late afternoon, but the water will still be cold.

Your pups will have an ample supply of refreshing and needed water throughout the day.

That's a great idea but Pearl would tip it over in about a minute and then I'd have an ice cold flood.

Thanks for the idea! I think my guys would fish out all the ice in 5 mins. At least they do at birthday parties! But the water would still be cold! We always bring a cooler with ice water for them if we are off in the car on a hot day, that way they can get a cool dring whenever we stop.

Water fountain

On the topics of water, Sash will only drink the water if she actually watches you fill the bowl. We have a big bottle water cooler at home and she is always trying to drink out of the tap for it. Well I had enough the other week and thought right...now we need a fountain. I got her a DogIt water bubble thingy. it is basically a dome that you fill with water and turn back upside down and it flows around and over the top. Sasha hasn't bothered with the cooler at all ever since. She loves the fountain and it was only 20 quid. They do a small dogs/cats and a normal one. Just search and you'll find. very handy. I clean it evry 5 days or so but in the meantime just add extra water to it(out of the cooler machine so its icy) and she loves it!! I have a feeling the cats go at it when she isn't there too!!!
