I've treated 5 puppies for parvo (when I worked as a vet tech). We saved all but 1. IV fluids are uber important if you can administer them, great. Antibiotics and anti nausea pills were also administered but the concoction posted earlier looks promising. The vet bills usually ran in the $1500-2000 range for about one week of treatment so if you can do this at home more power to you. If you have any other dogs everything must be cleaned with a 10% beach solution, all towels and blankets soaked in it before washing. Put some in a spray bottle and spay your hands with it after working with the puppy, then wash your hands. Yeah, that's right, bleach on the hands, nasty for the skin but if you touch the dog assume you have the virus on you. If you have gloves spray them before you take them off. Do the same with the bottom of your shoes or keep a towel soaked in the solution outside the door and step on it a bunch when exiting the room. Obviously keep any other dogs away from the puppy and everything that has touched him or any of his bodily fluids. It's a really contagious disease that you don't want to mess with. Good Luck.
It has worked very good in this area. BLEACH And MORE BLEACH spray and clean everything. we kept a shallow pan of very strong disinfectant sitting just out side our door we stepped in it and then on a towel before going out or coming in.Good luck and keep us posted.

My only experience with parvo is with a few pups I helped transport for a rescue I volunteered with. I know that a couple of them didn't end up making it, one became blind and a few made it through just fine. I remember disinfecting my entire car and tossing the crate there were transported in. Good luck and keep us updated.

...this is a serious problem-I would not use any home remedy. I would rely on the vets professional training and advice.

If you will notice in my post I have consulted with my vet and a Breeder on this remedy. But I do believe it is best to listen to your vet.

Hope your baby is feeling better! My Ty is a parvo survivor-gave us quite a scare. You got lots of good ideas here and definitely keep your other dogs seperate, it is very contagious. Ty and I are sending lots of healing vibes.

Can anyone tell me much about Parvo? I have been reading about it online. I just rescued a handsome 3 month old shepard mix on friday and he has bloody stools this am. I took him to the After Hours clinic and they said it was Parvo. He has been eating and drinking but just voimited a little bit ago. They wanted to keep him over nite but also wanted $600 to do it. I was a medic in the army and so they told me I could give him an IV at home to keep his fluids up. I just ordered Parvo Guard online. Has anyone had any experiances with Parvo or Parvo Guard in the past? I am heart broken. I tried to save this poor little guy but the outlook sounds so grim now.........

Parvo is the most deadly virus for dogs. Sadly, most don't make it. It all depends on how early you catch it though and how quickly you get treatment. When we got Macon, she was 8 weeks old and within 48 hours we discovered she had Parvo. She had to spend a week at the emergency hospital in isolation on IV's of antibiotics, etc. and she pulled through. She had a lot of stomach issues for the first year (weird stools, vomitting, sensitive stomach), but now she's 2 1/2 years old and healthy as a horse (except for her allergies). It cost us about $2000 to keep her at the hospital that week including meds to go home with, but it was worth it. I hope your little baby pulls through too. Keeping our paws crossed and sending lots of love.

Update

Hi everyone.
I want to start by thanking everyone for their replys and prayers. It has been almost a week that we have had Austin. My husband (Eric) brought him to the vet on Monday and they were very suprised at how hydrated he was. The vet also said that if he makes it past Wednesday, he should be fine. We kept on with the IV fulids at home, lots and lots of Pedialyte and of course lots of love.
My boxer woke up on Wednesday am hacking and coughing and obviously scared me. I brought her to my vet and he said Austin probably came home with kennel cough and now she had it too. She is up to date with her Parvo shots so she "should" be fine. We got some anitbotics and coughing pills and she is good now.
Austin is outside running around and playing like a pup should. He hasn't vomited since the first day, and his stool occasionally has a pink tint to it. The vet said that his intestines are healing and he should be okay. He said that the Parvo Guard might upset his stomach so I sent it back.We don't have to do the IV fluids anymore but I am going to keep a close eye on him and if he looks or acts funny you better bet he is going to get some. Lots and Lots of Pedialyte. This is a really scarry disease and I am so glad that I caught it in time. Once again, THANKS!
