Regis is currently in the animal shelter. The kennels are all outside, no blankets, etc. We found him Sunday and agreed to adopt him, he is approximately 1 year old and severely underweight. We felt lucky because he was put in with the owner notified dogs by mistake (no micro-chip or license) so he wasn't even to be put with the other animals available for adoption until Tuesday. The shelter said since it was a mistake we could adopt him. He was scheduled to be neutered today (Wednesday) and we would pick him up tomorrow. The vet at the shelter called today and said that he has a runny nose and cough so they can not do the surgery. He is going to start him on antibiotics and said maybe will know something by Monday. I asked the vet if I could take care of him now so that I can get him indoors and help him gain some weight, get better prior to having surgery, etc. The vet said it is not possible. The dogs must be neutered prior to leaving the shelter. I offered to have my vet call him and all I hear is that it is policy., my heart is breaking, I'm so worried about this little dog. Now he is in a kennel outside, skinny and sick. My husband has already named him Regis and I guess I'm asking for advice on how to get him out of the shelter now. Please pray for him and any suggestions would be appreciated.

hope all goes well...hopefully his runny nose and cough will go away quick so you can get him home and treat him like the baby he is..keep us updated and let us know when you get him home..thanks for adopting if more people did that there would be alot less of these babies in shelters..dora

If you want to get him out of the shelter sooner, you may want to try calling your town mayer and/or supervisor, they can override any ordinances. Hope little Regis recovers quickly and soon finds himself in your loving home ~ Cathy

Update on little Regis

The vet at the animal shelter said he is holding his own and they will continue to monitor him. I questioned regarding bringing blankets, food, visiting with Regis to give him human contact etc. Unfortunately I can not do anything to help him at this point in time. The vet was very nice and said that he was working through Saturday and would keep an eye on him and update me to any changes. I asked him if he thought Regis would be okay and he said yes, he thought so. He is in an area where he will not have contact with anyone from the general public, another words a kennel area outside where all the sick animals are.
I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions and happy thoughts. I called our congressmans office as the Dog Shelter is in a different city than where I live and their office advised me to call the county supervisors office. I told the situation to the office and they will have someone return my call.
We'll see what happens.
Angelo, Doug and I are praying that Regis will join our family and have the life that he deserves.
