Boxer Buddy
Okay, I've had a horrible day and the best person I can think to vent to is you guys at boxerworld. Around noon today I let Diamond outside to play, a little while later I got in the shower. Before I got in the shower I asked my boyfriend if Diamond was still outside and he said yeah so I went ahead and got in the shower. While I was in the shower I just had an uneasy feeling, so when I got out I asked if she was still out there, he said yes once again so I decided to go look for her. I hollered and she didn't come running like usual so I went to go get the car keys to go look in the pasture for her, she likes to run out there and chase rabbits but I don't like her being out there. Well, I open the car door and hear a panting noise...look around the outside of the car and in the seats...no dog. So I open the back door...Diamond's head falls out. She's still alive but panting uncontrollably. I just knew she was going to die. I pulled her out of the car and ran inside to get my boyfriend and my phone to call the vet, I also grabbed some towels. Her body was totally limp and her eyes rolled back into her head.
When I got back outside I turned the waterhose on her and wet the towels. I threw her back in the car and called the vet as I was driving. The whole time I'm freaking out, I just knew my baby wasn't going to make it, I just kept telling her I was sorry and that I loved her.
By the time we got there she had started breathing a little more regularly and her eyes were no longer rolled back. We carried her inside and they took her straight to the back. I asked the tech if she would please come get me if she started going downhill, she wouldn't even look at me.
A few minutes later the doctor came in and said they were working on an estimate, I told him not to worry about it, just to do what they needed to do...he just wanted my signature. He told me that they were cooling her down, her temp was 107.9 when they brought her in and they had gotten it down to 102.3. He told me that she was still very weak but she was doing a lot better. I asked if I could see her, he told me no, they were still working on giving her IV fluids and medicines and that she needed to stabilize before I could see her. He told me she was very confused anyway and just needed to concentrate on breathing.
I drove home and got my purse to pay the deposit and when I got back they were going to let me see her. The doctor came out and told me that she was stable and that she was now trying to sit up but still very weak. He also told me that she had some hemhorraging that he was worried might have gone into her lungs, but he was hoping that he gave her the steroids early enough to prevent it. I got back there and she was resting her head against the cage, they opened it so I could see her. She was so stiff and shivering, by then they had gotten her temp down to 96.8 and she needed to warm up again. Her pupils were huge. I just lost it. I told her again that I loved her and was sorry, then started rubbing her ears and she laid her head on me. They basically had to kick me out of the ICU so they could get some more fluids in her.
The last I heard she was still doing alright, they are still worried about the hemhorrage and organ failure but they will call if there are any changes.
I still have no idea how she got in the car, nobody here opened the car door. I've even told them that if they did it on accident I don't even care, it was obviously an accident. I just want her to be okay. But nobody knows what happened.
To all of you guys, please remember how lethal the heat is and be aware of where your babies are and what they are doing. Please pray for Diamond tonight that she can come home soon and give your babies a hug for me tonight.
Thank you all for listening, your prayers will certainly be appreciated.
