Thanks, guys. :) Thank you, Barbara, for your offer. I may take you up on that. I went to visit Oscar last night.......it was awful. He was in so much pain. I sat in his kennel area with him for about 45 minutes, he leaning against me pressing his head on my leg. Poor baby wouldn't lay down, just standing kind of all hunched up. His incision is from his genital area up to his ribcage. I feel so bad. I had a hard time choking back the tears at the hospital but cried all the way home and all last night. The vet told me to call this morning after 9:30, which I did, and they decided to keep him longer. I have to call back at noon to see if he can come home today. I miss my baby and hope he feels better soon although I know with the surgery he had it will be some time.

Thanks again for asking. :)

Glad to hear Oscar will be ok,at least he ate a food product. My choc. lab just had surgery and they found a pair of size 10/12 boxer shorts. Those boxer shorts ended up costing me $997.00.

 You know, Barbara, that is what the vet was expecting, a pair of underwear or a sock. That's why the surgeon had such a good laugh when they found a potato. Leave it to Oscar to provide a "first" for them.

I'm guess-ti-mating this is going to end up in the $1000 range plus the fact that I purchased a new HUGE wire crate for Oscar that he will be spending his time in when he's not by MY side. ;)
Even though my husband just lost his job, money meant nothing to us when it came to one of our "kids." :)

PS---the suspected culprit that may have provided the potato to Oscar is my 17-month-old granddaughter. My daughter said the other night when hubby and I were shopping, she caught Brynne and Oscar in the pantry, even though it only had been a minute---it was probably long enough for these cohorts in crime to pull off the great potato caper!

Oscar's home!

Steve and I picked up Oscar early this afternoon (finally!). Boy, was he glad to see us! :D He had this look on his face like "Ummm......Maw? You kinda forgot me here last night! You wouldn't believe what these human beans did to me!" It's so good to have him home. He's moving slowly but walking around and handing out plenty of licks and cuddles. It's going to be a bit of a long recovery for him but I'm so glad he's okay. :)

Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes. :)

Kim:
I am sorry I haven't responded sooner!! Poor oscar, I am glad it wasn't anything serious.
When Roxanne was younger I was soooooo careful about everything. I never use any unnatural pesticides in the house or backyard to prevent poisoning. Well, she go so sick, vomiting etc. I was beside myself. Turns out she ate a caterpillar!!! Evidentally this one is poisonous.
Glad he is home, I am sure he is being spoiled right now!

A potato!! When we first got our two I used to keep my potatoes in a box in the basement where it was cool. Needless to say the rascals found the box and we used to find potatoes all over the house!!! To think of what could have happened makes me shudder ! I'm glad Oscar is on the road to recovery - only mashed potatoes from now on!!!

I haven't been online for a few days, so I didn't see your post until today. I am SO SORRY that poor Oscar had to have surgery, and that you had to be so overwrought over all this. Life with a Boxer is never dull, is it? And you know what? I bet Oscar didn't learn his lesson, and you'll still have to watch him like a hawk to make sure he doesn't consume anything else he shouldn't. They are worse than toddler skin kids! I sure hope he recovers from this real soon, and I'll keep you in my prayers concerning your huge vet bill too.

Once again, thanks for all the well wishes! Unfortunately, a few of Oscar's staples have let loose this evening and we'll be heading back to the vet tommorow morning.

Steve and I feel so bad. I wish they would put animals on pain meds. We can tell he is in so much pain and feel simply awful. He is constantly laying with his head on our lap or trying to keep as close to us as possible but in a way that we can tell he's hurting. :( I just hope he heals soon.

Oh Julie? As for this probably not being the last time---Steve wanted them to install a zipper  as he had the same sediment.

As for the vet bill---this was a new vet (to us) as our regular vet is supposedly an emergency vet and all the vets were out of the office (at an emergency vets!!). I rushed him to a nearby facility where I knew my girlfriend took her dogs. I was very surprised----the total bill including blood work, x-rays, scope, surgery, overnight stay, microchipping (I threw that in since he was going to be in surgery anyway), anesthesia and meds/food to go home was $600!!! I couldn't believe it because they have a vet surgeon on staff they use. Steve and I were so happy with this facility that we are switching Oscar's care over to them. :)

Wow, Kim - did you ever get a bargain!! All that for $600.00 - wish I could find a vet like that in Abbotsford, especially since we have two !!

I know! I thought especially since they have a specialized surgeon that the cost was going to go through the roof (not that it mattered at that point). I never told them about my husband's job loss either.

What really impressed me with this office was the fact that the vet who first evaluated Oscar knew so much about Boxer physiology, i.e., prone to GI problems, pancreatitis, etc., and began looking in all those directions first. Also the fact that the surgeon called me every step of the way with Oscar's scoping procedure and then surgery. They were so good about keeping me updated immediately which eased my mind considerably. We were very impressed with the care Oscar received not only from the docs but the staff as well.

We're very lucky to have found this clinic though I wish it would have been different circumstances.

On another note---the trainer for Oscar's clicker class is going to let us retake the full class as soon as Oscar is able. Whew! Another worry put to rest.
