Don't panic! We have 2 cats (4 years old) that were none too happy to be sharing their home with a boxer. You have to do it GRADUALLY....

Bring the dog in and restrain him. Just sit close to him and hold his leash. The cat will be curious and come over and sniff. Your cat will probably hiss a couple of times too...that's normal.

Make sure you restrain the DOG, not the cat. Let the cat have free reign to run away if it wants to. Do NOT let the dog chase the cat or corner it. You'd be surprised what damage a cat can do when cornered (even if its declawed, like mine are)

They will eventually get used to each other. Until then, keep them separated unless you are able to supervise.

Good luck...and pretty soon they will either lose interest in each other or become best of friends. :)

Our dogs never socialize with our persians, they do their own thing. But my siamese loves to be tortured by our dogs. He will provoke the pups and get them to attack him. I try to pick up Artemis and put him in a safe place, but he comes back for more.

When we brought Rayna home the cats were so upset  they wouldnt even come down off high places...we had to feed them on the counter.....we kept them separated for a long time and they would just have short visits when we were home and able to watch them interact....My biggest and oldest cat "duke" 3 years has scratched Rayna once i think because Rayna knows not to mess with him....If Rayna even hears him hisssss.....she runs  but thats a good thing Rayna needed to know she couldnt mess with him......Our other cat who is almost 1 "sticky" is Rayna's pal now...sticky is learning to even "box" Rayna back...without the claws...it very funny .....

SO there is hope.....they may never love one another but they will learn to co habbitate...hopefully

My cat almost seems to like to get the dogs in trouble. He'll lay in the middle of the hall and when one of the dogs comes by he hisses, slaps, and runs. If the dogs don't pay any attention to him, he'll walk under them and make sure his tail rubs their bellies. It took the cat a little time to adjust to the dogs but they are all getting along fine now.
