please help

i have a 7 month old male red boxer his problem is when we have visitors or he sees people outside when people talk to him or clap him he starts peeing and gets very excited its like people might think he doesnt get anough atention when people come to the house i have to tell them not to talk to him or clap so he will not pee i know some boxers who have this problem but they have sort of outgrown the problem please could someonr help thanks

Hi Suzi,

It sounds like your dog has what is known as submissive peeing. Have your family or visitors ignore him when they first come in. Try not to stand over him, but rather get down to his level. If he should pee, show indifference and walk away - scolding only feeds/fuels into his problem with submissiveness. Later, you may also want to try offering him a treat when greeting him - it will take his mind off of you and help him focus on the food. Only wish I could be of more help. Maybe some of the others can give you more ideas on how to build up his confidence. - Cathy
