Hello everyone, im in need of some advise on what to do with my 5 month old boxer. he wont stay out the litter box he keeps eatting the cat poop. i . figured he was still hungry but after he eats he still goes there. putting him in time out for it is not seeming to help him stay out of it. The litter box is a closed in litter box with a door and is hidden he jumps over the couch just to get it. If you have any idea how to break this horrable habit please help me!!

I was going to suggest ensuring the door is on the box, but I guess you already have that. I had this problem with my boxer (ours didn't have the door) but as soon as I purchased a door to the litter box it worked at detering him from it and he didn't stick his head in there anymore. I was however contemplating purchasing a litter dome that would make it difficult for him to access the litter.

We made a top entry liter box - problem solved. We bought an extra large rubber maid - cut a hole in the top. We took a smaller rubber maid, cut a hole in the top (opposite side as the other hole). The dogs can stick their head in, but they aren't in the "liter" area.

I had to get a Booda Dome box cause I have 4 kitty tootsy roll eaters! And of course, two of them figured out how to partner up and flip the lid off. Sooooo, I knoooowwwww I am smarter than they are, or at least think I am, and hooked a bungee cord on the base up over the top and onto the other side. Now, they avoid it knowing their efforts are futile.
Depending on the actual litter you use in the box, it can be very harmfull to dogs. Like Fresh Step is made with a concrete mix with some other things. So if swallowed, it can turn into cement in their stomaches causing blockage. If you use this type of litter, you definitely have to keep the dog from ingesting it with the poop.
Try different things and be creative like Pghboxers said. You can try turning the box so the door is about 8" from the wall. May deter your dog, but I bet he will still figure it out or move it. LOL
