Because of all the rain, my house got those huge tree roaches...My husband put those "roach motels" black bait things around the house. Well he put one in a corner where he thought the animals couldn't get it.

The cat managed to wedge herself in and pull it out and while I was cleaning in another room, Clara started chewing it up. When I saw what happened, I immediately took it away, but could she have ingested some of the poison? I called every vet in town, but they're all closed for the weekend and there's no emergency number. Should I be looking for anything? What should I do? Is it harmful? I'm scared out of my mind right now! And mad at hubby for putting it where an animal could grab it.

Try calling poison control and see what they suggest. You might have to induce vomitting. I used hydrogen peroxide before to induce vomitting when my dog ate somthing he shouldn't have. You mean there is not one emergency vet hosp. in your area at all? What are you supposed to do? Maybe you can try calling another hospital in the next city or town to see what they suggest. Let us know how she's doing.

Call the animal poison control center -- 1-888-426-4435. They do charge for a consultation (you pay by credit card), but they will tell you what to do. My sister has used the service before and it's worth every penny in an emergency.

Be aware that some things will do more damage by inducing vomiting -- the poison control centers usually know when you should do that and when that is dangerous. Keep us posted!

Well I've found a vet in Shreveport who told me to watch her for any symptoms. She's her normal self. The vet told me not to worry unless I see any kind of unusual behavior/symptoms in her. She hasn't acted sick or anything. I'm still watching her very closely and will drive to the nearest emergency vet if I need to (which is an hour away).

Thanks for all the advice. Hubby got a word or two when he came home from work and he moved any others that could potentially by found by an animal.

How's Clara doing today? Hopefully she's doing good!!

This happened to one of my older dogs before, Mandy. She ate the same thing you think Clara ate. She did a pretty good job on it too!! I called poison control and they said because of her weight (she was pretty big) and the small amount that is in the trap's she should be fine, just keep a close eye on her. She was fine!!!! It's pretty scary though when you relize what they just ate/chewed!!!!

I would not wait, but have her seen immediatly.

With toxic items & chocolate poisoning, signs don't show up right away. but several hours (or days later) and by then, the dog could be too far gone to save. The poisons go into the system and then cause the damage later on.....and then that is when they start showing signs of being sick.

Clara is fine today. She's acting like her normal, happy self. I am going to call my vet tomorrow and ask for his opinion. Thanks for all the advice and concern! It was/is very scary.
