please help major puppy problem!dying?

our 8 month old female fawn boxer has chronic diahria.out of 8 months it has gotten thick stool only about 4 weeks.now she has very itchy ears her complexion is redish and she is getting very skinny.wont eat her eukanuba low residue food.vet doesnt even know whats wrong tried very many medicines etc.they want 600.00 to look inside her which would only tell them,ok its imflammatory.anyone ever have this and what did you do to solve this.shes lost alot of her energy and i am very worried.first dog ive ever had and i love her to death.i hope she isnt slipping away on me.please someone help us!!!!

It could be an allergy to the food you are feeding her...

Either way, Eukanuba is not a very good food and I would suggest switching her to a super premium kibble. In some cases, they are not any more expensive. Here are some great ones:

Canidae
Wellness
Solid Gold
Eagle Pack Holistic
Flint River Ranch

Please do a search on quality kibble. My Boxer had bad diarreah, vomiting, bad gas, etc.. and the food switch (we feed Canidae now) has made all of these problems go away. Everyone is different, though.

I am sorry to hear that your baby is sick. First of all Eukanuba is a crappy food, doesn't matter if the vets say it isn't because it is. She could very well be allergic to something in that food that could cause the runs as well as what sound like possible allergies from food with ehr skin condition and ears. I am by no means an expert but it sounds like it could be that. It could also be colitis and irritable bowel. Those can be managed with medications and diet. I would seek another vet's opinion just to be on the safe side. I would also research trying a different food, do a search on here for allergies and or food allergies and see what you can find. Neither of mine are allergic to anything I can tell so I don't know much about the food to feed them if they are. Try starting her on some plain boiled rice and chicken. Can cook the rice in chicken broth for flavor. This should help calm her belly down and maybe firm up her stools. I have read you can also add 1 Tbsp of canned pumpkin (plain) to their food as well as some yogurt or active cultures to aid in the digestive flora in her gut. Perhaps see if there is a holistic vet in your area and/or seek another vetrinary opinion so you can perhaps get another set of ideas before trying surgery. I hope she gets better soon. You can also try boiled rice and hamburger if the chicken doesn't agree with her. This will simplify her diet and she can stay on this for a period of time beore trying to slowly introduce other things. Research a good quality kibble if you intend to feed that, preferably one that is usually toelrated by allergy prone dogs, you can find names/brands on here if you do a search, that may be helful. Good luck and I hope she gets better. It sounds like porbable alleriges to something by the description of her skin tone and itchy ears. If the diet change doesn't help it could be an inflammatory bowel issue but these can usually be manged with meds.

First, Hugs to you and your baby. Now, have you tried any other kinds of food???? Eukanuba's not the greatest. Try a search or go to the feeding forum and have a look around there. If you feel you can handle it, a raw diet may help or at least a home cooked one. You could try feeding her boiled chicken and rice. Pumpkin can help firm up her stools. But I wouldn't add that right away. I'd try the chicken and rice first it's easier on an upset tummy. Do you have any holistic vets in your area? They may be able to help. I agree with Vela and Courtney, my first guess is an allergy to something in her environment or more likely her food.

Have you tried yogurt? It cant hurt, it puts good bacteria into their belly, which is what she needs right now. She also needs some electrolytes. Loss of energy COULD be due to dehydration. Make sure she is parasite free also, Im sure youve already done this, but I had to mention it. If you do switch her kibble, make sure you wean her onto the new slowly by adding a little of the new with a little of the old daily. Ad a tablespoon of yogurt (plain) and it will help with the transition.

You two are in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully she will get better with a kibble change. If not, find a new vet quickly.

First thing, make sure she is not dehydrated. It defintely could be a food allergy. My grandpup Brutus developed an allergy to his kibble after thriving on it for over a year. He had chronic diarreah and was even vomiting diarreah. Took him to the Emergency vet where he was given fluids and medicine to help the gut. Then he began the diet of boiled chicken and white rice. Very bland, but he loved it. Chris then introduced his old kibble by mixing it with the chix and rice mix and the poopy problems started again. Back to chicken and rice and a new kibble. You must introduce a new kibble a bit at a time.

Have you tried the small animal clinic at Penn State? You will likely need a recommendation from your local vet, but all the experts are at the teaching clinics.

My boxer had digestive disorders. We had an ultrasound and endescopy done and now the vets know how to treat him. He was really in bad shape and is doing terrific now that they know what to treat.

Your pup sounds like my Layla...we have been battling loose runny stools for a long time. Has your pup been tested for Giardia?? This has been a re-occuring problem for us but our vet also thinks it is a food allergy as she also has skin issues. I had always fed premium kibble, Canidae or Wellness, I give yogart everyday and I always give pure pumpkin, but we always have had this problem. The only time that she has firm stools is when she is put on meds. Antibiotics for the skin staff infections and Flagyl and Pepcid for the gatrointestional issues. I obviously hate her being on the meds all the time, so we have now tried IVD which is a prescription diet of very limited ingredients. She is on the Rabbit and Potato now but also still on the meds so I cannot tell if the food is working. If this does not help we will do an ultrasound and endoscopy. Hang in there, I know how you feel, my Layla is also very skinny and it had gotten to a point where we could no longer go on our daily walks because I just couldn't pick up after her anymore because of the volume and consistency of her stools. Please try the chicken and rice reccomendation--they love it and it helps their belly.

Just make sure you don't keep her on it for too long without supplementing her with vitamins or something to help her with her supplementation. Since she is still a growing puppy they need vitmains and minerals to a certain extent, usually gained from their food but with the limited food source she will have for the next little while she may need some supplementation at some point. You can safely keep her on this for a while though without harming her. There are some vitamin gravies you could try adding, unless she is allergic to them as well, and/or gradually start adding in a high quality kibble that other allergy pups use (you can find that by doing a search on here) in with her chicken and rice. I would keep her on it for a good week or two though at least to help her digestive tract settle. I would also add the yogurt to help with her gut flora. Just a spoonful will do, can even feed it to her separately. Good to hear it is helping some and I hope she gets feeling better.
